• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

First of all, hello everyone.

I wanted to tell you guys something that is important, it's about the harms of masturbation and inappropriate contentography on the brain and body.

Contemporary doctors and psychologists usually say it's healthy...let me just tell you this : they DO NOT know what they are talking about, they simply don't have the perspective of a inappropriate content addict. inappropriate content viewing is linked to less grey matter in the brain, check the latest research.

Quitting masturbation and inappropriate contentography has been the best thing I've done for myself in the last few years. Most people don't realize how harmful it can be.
I personally can't believe how much time I wasted on these things.

Here are some of the benefits of abstaining from both masturbation and inappropriate content for a few weeks :
- Feelings of well-being. Being calmer. Easier to laugh, less anger.
- Feeling MORE pleasure from everyday activities, this benefit is amazing. :D
- More creativity. The sense of humor comes back.
- Better memory. Better ability to concentrate.
- More natural confidence, less social anxiety.
- Easier to give up other addictions (smoking, too much caffeine, gaming, thinking about someone of the opposite sex).
- More motivation to do important things.
- Music becomes more pleasurable. In fact, music tastes could even change.
- Less sleep is needed.
- Easier to talk, less stutter.
- Being able to remember dreams.
- Less sexual problems, better erections.
- Feeling emotions more strongly, like love for example.
- Emotionally more resilient.
- The skin will look younger, less acne.
- More physical strength.
- A deeper voice.
- A stronger immune system.
- Much more attracted to the opposite sex (in a good way).
- More interested in the little things.

Note : Most people who quit get these benefits, but some need more time to be cured.
Note 2 : Beware the withdrawal symptoms in the first few days (irritability, loss of motivation. crying...)

Do not hesitate to share this message to other people and forums.

Hope it helped.

This is why I support the no-fap movement. It makes me happy to see young men and women learning to transform such evils.

Good post my friend.

In my personal experience many of these things do NOT happen when I have stopped masturbating:

- Feelings of well-being, calmer, laughing more, less anger (NOPE)
- Feeling more pleasure from everyday activities (perhaps some things but generally, no)
- More creativity (no)
- better memory (no)
- more confidence, less social anxiety (nope, it makes it worse)
- easier to give up other addictions (nope, makes them worse)
- blah blah
- stuttering (makes it worse due to my sexual desires making me practically insane)
- stronger immune system (it would seem that healthy sexual release itself would boost immune system, and the opposite would be true for lack of sexual release)
- more attracted to opposite sex (yes that would happen as you do not have sexual release happening at all)
- more interested in the little things (no, my brain "needs" sexual release so that is all I can think about instead of the little things)

Now, I am not saying masturbation is GOOD, I am not quite sure about it yet and am struggling with it, though I have prayed and prayed and it seems my sexual desires have been dampened thanks to my Lord and Savior. So we will see how I do over the next few months, but most of these "benefits" of stopping masturbation don't seem to ring true for ME.

But I am female, and we are all different in every way, except our very basic biological makeup.

I am very glad you were able to stop your inappropriate content an masturbation addiction. I know I try to avoid even seeing kissing or make out scenes on TV or movies as I feel that is something only a married couple should be doing and I have no right to see a couple doing it even if they aren't really a couple IRL. It kind of disgusts me.

I don't think those things would go away if you stopped for a longer period, like, 15-60 days. I know at one point I wast only masturbating once every 2 weeks or so and saw most of the benefits (I only went 2 weeks cas honestly that about how long I could hold out, hopefully in the future I can hold out longer)

I'm female like ElectricBlueBauble....I have the same problem and felt the same way....it's like my body craves it...after I do it, I stop for a while like almost a month, then I started to get the cravings again....I couldn't ignore that feeling...yes it does make you more interested in the opposite sex but my desires have dampened some since a few years ago, but I still desire men. I don't think those "feelings" will go away for me since I have been doing this for a long time.

Hello all. Sorry I have not been here to answer.

Please share this !

Masturbation is a real mystery, having an [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] with one's hand is DAMAGING.

Listen very well, you must "evolve" spiritually first to become "repulsed" by masturbation

The "friendzone" is usually caused by masturbation. Masturbation sometimes attracts bullying. inappropriate content will destroy your soul.

Low spiritual vibrations = depression, loving metal music, inappropriate content, piercings, tatoos, low quality sex, violent behavior when stressed, taking naked selfies, feeling the need to insult others, drugs etc...

Being on the lower spiritual plane is like having major myopia, you do not "see", you cannot see the "real beauty" of the world, the faces of women, art, "higher" music for instance.

Remember how much happier you were when you were a kid? Small things delighted you, everybody loved you, you were happy from the moment you woke up to the moment you went to sleep.

Chronic masturbators usually attract people of the same spiritual plane, everywhere, even on the internet, vidéo games...

Metal music, g-strings, inappropriate contentography, the fact that women dress in a bad way, tatoos, piercings (except the earrings), vulgar swear words, the impression that time passes "too quickly", the disappearance of true intellect and even the way people walk (no or little grace in movements), is I think, and I am not sure at all, the results of people's sins today, especially Usury and Fornication! wa Allahu a3lam.

I believe that just not speaking against usury can plunge one into grave sin.

Avoiding sins, doing many good deeds like helping others and giving charity will AWAKEN a human being SPIRITUALLY, you won't stand to see things like nudity or hear bad music anymore. And your brain will feel new, wonderful things. Even your food and music taste will change. You will meet new like-minded people. And your words will have much more impact than usual (even on the internet). You will attract better people easily. Your face will be brighter than usual. You will become much smarter.

If you keep on doing tons of good deeds while avoiding sins, you will need much less sleep, eat a lot less yet have immense energy, be a lot more courageous and resilient, you will feel great! Your spiritual energy will be so high that you will attract great friends and wealth without much effort. Strangers will smile at you for no reason, small children will come to you in a trusting way, animals will approach you.

Purify your soul, for you shall feel love everlasting.

Have a nice day.

No evidence that masturbation in and of itself is harmful in any way.

Now, if one relies on inappropriate contentography to increase excitement during masturbation, this could have a negative impact on the excitement one feels while they are with a real person.

The troubling thing with masturbation is that, after you haven't done it for maybe a week or longer, the feeling of sheer anxiousness comes over me when something lewd enters my mind. Then it's like the body is going, "Come on!! Let's do it!!! Let's rock & roll!!" Ugh...It's frustrating.

I really see it as the 'spirit killer', meaning it affects my spirit, and thus my faith and confidence.

Concentrating on prayer and the Scriptures is good.

Thanks for sharing. I have quit inappropriate contentography viewing for a month now and I feel more relaxed but still have issues with anxiety. I also have more interest in little things. Yet I can't say I got all the benefits yet.

inappropriate contentography degrades women and cheapens the sex act. From what I have heard, both masturbation and inappropriate contentography can be quite addicting. Am NOT a male so am not dealing with that struggle from a man's perspective. My blessings and prayers to anyone that is fighting that fight.

It's funny you mention that, as a male NOT masturbating doesn't really do much good for me either. I mean, the Holy Spirit has seriously dampened my sexual desire since I pray to suppress it (I'm not married); but yeah, I fall from time to time, unfortunately. Once I week, at least. I'm praying I can become stronger in Christ so I can resist temptation even further.

It is a good idea to take breaks from inappropriate content consumption. I don't care if people look, but looking at it every night or every couple hours? Probably ain't good for you.

Now, that said, I draw my own inappropriate content for my own needs, and I actually find it kind of cathartic. Besides, I gotta draw naked people anyway, learning to fine tune my artistic skills.

I'll offer the suggestion that separating the topic of self-pleasuring from the topic of inappropriate contentography may be beneficial.

There are spiritual and neurological consequences of watching inappropriate content (whether or not it is accompanied by self-stimulation), but this is a different action and experience from self pleasuring.

I think there can be a constructive dialog about how self-pleasuring can be harmful OR helpful;

I think inappropriate content is largely or even entirely deleterious.

Happy to bring my experiences and insight to either of these topics, but I prefer to keep them separate topics.
