Finn finally had an uneventful night. No fever, no throwing up, no high heart rate or low oxygen; just sleep which is what he needs. He seems to be smiling and kicking a lot this morning and is about to get a bath and watch Octonauts.

Kelly also posted asking for prayers for another baby at UVA named JR. He's a month younger than Finn and is having his heart surgery this morning, the exact same surgery Finn had.

Finn is going down for another procedure this morning. It's not anything huge like his heart cath or even a chest tube thank goodness. He is going down to IR to have a special feeding tube placed and to take a look at his GI. We could take all the time in the world pacing ourselves and letting him take the time he needs to eat in his own time but in the long run, this would not be good.

In order to ensure that his thoracic duct has healed from the TPN, we have to get him up to full feeds to see if it produces chyle. The best way to monitor this is with the chest tube. We all know it's only a matter of time before Finn pulls this tube out and we are sitting on day 5 so we need to test these feeds now and can't wait. I don't have any information on what formula he will be on afterwards or how long it will be or what kind of sedation or even what time this will happen. I am sure I will know these details soon. You can tell in this photo he already has half of his nasal cannula ripped off so the chest tube is only a matter of time. This is what's best for him in the long run right now to get him home sooner.

Uneventful night for Finn. All he did was sleep. Keep these nights coming Finn!

He's going in for another procedure today, but I didn't quite catch what it is other than it helps with feeding (he had his last bottle for awhile last night), so I'll update again when I see something about that

GI results came back and everything is normal! We were going to do the ND tube today but just found out that we can't because we can't do the tube if he hasn't passed all of the contrast out of his body which he hasn't yet. He needs another day to process this so we will try again tomorrow. His chest tube output has been less; still having random fevers and high heart rate BUT overall smiling more and feeling better.

Starting the month off right :D
Finn had another great night of just resting comfortably with no issues

and Kelly was able to go home for a few hours for the first time in weeks and she surprised her older son Mason at school. :D

The ND tube procedure today was unfortunately unsuccessful today. Due to Finn's complex anatomy, the doctor tried three times and he just couldn't make the tube work. So, for now, he just has an NG tube and we have begun feedings and are hoping he can tolerate them until the team can speak to GI again tomorrow to see about a new plan.

He is totally worn out and sleeping very soundly. He is also down to 2 liters of oxygen.

From yesterday morning:
We have experienced a true miracle this morning. Finn's NG tube shifted on its own and is now an ND tube!!! This means he will not have to have a sedated GI procedure to fix it! This rarely ever happens! So we have already cut the TPN in half and have begun continuous feeds! I have such faith that we are on the right path and that this is a sign.

and this morning:
Finn slept through the night and still manages to tolerate his feeds

Also, Finn had a need to sleep with TWO pacis last night; lamby AND foxy. He was trying to put both in his mouth at the same time. ^_^
