I said what was in my post for reader s to be encouraged to look more into these psalms.

Amen. Thank you. What is the point in "skimming" through the Bible (and even "skipping" entire books of the Bible) just to accomplish a "goal" or because it's difficult or "unpleasant" to read, without munching on it and taking in the treasures there is to learn from it, and edifying and encouraging one another?

It's not a "race".

How tragic.

Thank you kindly for your comment Fred. I couldn't agree more.

God bless you.

FredVB as always we are very pleased to get comments on this thread.

I have learnt that some Psalms are happy, but also that many are very sad.

It's a pity that you find some books of the Bible not worth the effort. Psalms is "meatless". really? There are NO books in the Bible "not worth the effort".

It's not about ANY of us. It's about the "Word of God".

Thank you kindly.

I'm not sure what your point is......sad Psalms? This is EXACTLY what MINISTERS to SOOOOOOO many who ARE in tragic, scary, or bereft circumstances. THAT is why David and the Psalms are soooo crucial. David poured it ALL out to God. He is the epitome of how we are to pray to a God Who IS our present HELP in our times of trouble. THIS is what is meant by "lifting it ALL up to God", the God Who CARES for us.

It ministers to the broken-hearted, bereft, weak, sick, and hopeless.

Psalms (ALL of them) are a CRUCIAL part of the Bible. And God ministers to us through them, and in turn we minister to others.

Thank you kindly.

Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein. For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
Psalm 69 verses 34-35
Here is a nice word form the Psalms.

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

Psalm 77
is about that time when we feel really low but we see the light at the end of the tunnel. The writer is in that situation but has faith in God.

Verse 13 says this:
Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?

The next verse tells us how powerful our Lord really is
You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.

Psalms 78 might have been too much. The history of the people of Israel shows a sequence of rebellion even when Yahweh God shows abundant grace. There are commandments to live by, we are to note. In Judah God is known, his name is great in Israel.

FredVB,

Thank you very much for your comments on Psalm 78.

I have been studying the Old Testament for about a year now.

I need to do a little bit of the New Testament.

I have started a thread on Matthew's Gospel.

Of course I will come back and finish the Old Testament later.
