• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

So I have a GF how has 3 traits of BPD.

She gets upset with me at times and I think the emotions she feels come from the words she wants to express. She knows I love her, but since we are an hours flight apart we don't see each other that often. So the last couple of says she is upset saying I only love her 25%. While I think if she just thought about that I love her it wouldn't trigger those negative emotions.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts about words and the effect word choice has one emotions?

I have experience with someone with BPD for many years.

With those who have BPD, they tend to put far too much meaning into the words people choose when they speak with them. They are very good at perceiving insults, when another person who overheard the conversation, would never take it the same way. This is one of the tell tale signs of BPD.

These folks have at times, the emotional maturity of a child and they take things like a child and especially so, when they are faced with any type of stress.
