One of the WORST was at my youngest brother's wedding: AIMEE by Pure Prairie League. (it was actually covered by his band Five Apples) My SIL was overjoyed that they sang that and sang it again at the reception. On one level I get that since she was named after that song. But I really question the appropriatness of the lyrics:

Aimee, what 'cha gonna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do.
I keep falling in and out of love with you
falling in and out of love with you...

Oh no! What an awful song! Kinda innapropriate, although probably other ppl have chosen worse.
True. there was a couple that had "The Halleluijah Chorus" frm Handel's Messiah as their post-lude. With full orchestra and choir. (kinda tacky IMO)

At least no one that I have ever heard of had "Willow Garden" by Bill Monroe or Art Garfunkle. That would be TRULY horrid.

The last wedding went to was the pastors daughter and think they had a song walking down the aisle that lyrics were ' my daughter is getting married today'

Im sure some couples might have had 'i do i do i do' by ABBA. Well Muriel did in the movie Muriels wedding.

I remember reading a memoir written by Fran Drescher of the tv show "the Nanny' fame.
She wrote that she wanted 'For all we Know' made famous by the Carpenters as her wedding song when she got married to her fiance. Her Jewish mother was horrified. She said do you listen to the lyrics?

She didn't want any uncertainty!
I later found that ms Drescher got divorced from her husband...apparently he turned gay.

Did you have an orthodox wedding seashale?
I did not, actually. I was already married when I converted. However, we did have our marriage blessed (crowning part, et cetera).

I had a string quartet at my wedding, and here's what I chose:
candle lighting: Ode to Joy- Beethoven
mothers' entrance: Adagio- Corelli
processional: Canon in D- Pachelbel
bride's processional: Trumpet Voluntary- Clarke
unity candle lighting: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring- Bach
recessional: Allegro Maestoso from Water Music- Handel

People really liked the string quartet. They played pretty much whatever they wanted before the wedding too, which was fine by me (someone told me they even played A Whole New World from Aladdin). They did a great job. I had no singing at my wedding.

My mother used Mendelssohn's War March of the Priests as her processional when she was married (she majored in music and plays the pipe organ). I've never actually been to or heard of another wedding where this song has ever been played- so my mother was fairly unique in that- I suppose. I like this song- but it wasn't baroque enough for me.

thanks for sharing seashale.

I don't come from a musical family so would have no idea about actual musicians. The only music that I really know well is popular music from the 50's and 60's that my dad always played records from. A lot of the earlier music had full orchestras. But nowadays its just bands, electronica etc.

I know popular music in general, that gets played on radio. (grew up in the 80's, early 90's) Although I do like ballet music thats in the classical genre.

I remember a neighbour got married and she had music from Phantom of the Opera (her favourite musical) playing at her wedding, and a string quartet at the reception..

My mom has played a lot of weddings over the years. During the 70s this was quite popular at weddings (she even has an old book where this and other popular songs of the time were adapted for weddings:

""Laura Nyro - Wedding Bell Blues" Really? Who was "Bill" in her life?

When Marilyn McCoo wrote that song back in the late 60s it was about fellow band member Billy Davis Jr. (Big hit 1969) They did eventually get married.
