I collect figurines of dragons, fairies, unicorns and angels. Does anyone think it's wrong for a Christian to have figures of dragons in their house? I don't believe that all dragons are evil, I believe there are good dragons in the world of imagination and fantasy. I also have fairy and angel figurines, unicorns too. It's hard to say which ones I like the best. It's not idol worship, I don't worship them, I just like them for their beauty and the way they decorate my room. My room is so full at the moment. Don't have room for anything more.

Well, I am glad you agree with me. I think most people feel the same. Only extreme right-wing televangelist preachers who are trying to get attention and money would preach against such "idols", they are not idols there is nothing wrong with this collecting and art.

I like unicorns too. They are pretty, graceful, peaceful, gentle and sweet. In Medieval art and symbolism the unicorn was a metaphor for Jesus Christ. There were allegory paintings and tapestries of the hunt for the unicorn, which was an allegory of Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection. There are some very beautiful unicorn tapestries from the late Middle Ages.

I've collected unicorns since I was a pre-teen, and I'm now in my 40s. Unicorn is also part of my nickname (my WH is Owl, my daughters are Bunny & Butterfly). My husband even painted a plain pewter figurine just for me (Incidentally, it's less than 1" tall). He painted her with a purple dress (my favorite color) and gave her a silver circlet in her hair and the Unicorn has a silver horn (I prefer silver to gold):

To be fair, the use of ''Dragon'' in the Bible was only due to the English translation, and not something that the ancient Hebrews and NT-era Christians actually used. Dragons appear throughout the world so you could argue that dragons were merely another of yoru God's creatures (and in this case another lizard) that existed in the past but no longer, whereas ''THE Dragon'' was Satan in the form of such a terrifying creature (and he really is a terrifying version of the creature), as that is not even his real form.

So do you mean "dragons" could be dinosaurs, which are now extinct. Or the idea came from caymans, a reptile closely related to crocodiles and alligators. THere is another crocodilian reptile called a ghaval, with a long, very narrow snout with razor sharp teeth, like a saw. I think crocodiles and their relatives encouraged dragon stories, and the remains of dinosaurs increased stories of huge fierce dragons. Some dragons were more like snakes, serpents like pythons and boas. I was going to write a story about God's early creation, the war in heaven and how the angels, early man and dragons/disnosaurs battle each other. The dragons and dinosaurs are closely related, the original dragons are punished by being turned into dinosaurs, God shrinks their brains, takes away their inteligence and makes them like beasts as punishment for their rebellion and betrayal. THere are a few good dragons, however. And the thing about dinosaurs evolving into birds, I must figure how to work that out. There will be draconic birds, wyverns, and Quetzacoatl.

I know this is a bit late on this thread, but I also collect all kinds of fantasy items and love them. I think if it looks good, get it. I have bought several items from this website called StealStreet.com. All kinds of fantasy items there and I'm a total fan! Also, write that story! It sounds fun!

I have just stumbled across this thread, and have been asking myself the same question, only I am disbanding from the occult side of things, throwing away my books, tools, etc. But I do love my dragons, and magical fantasty wizard collection, as works and peices of art, I have never worshiped them.

Does anyone have any more thoughts on this?
Sorry to bump an old thread.
