I have fallen into this trap before...

Is it common to feel attracted to TV characters? They are not real, but I've fallen into the trap before of feeling attraction to at least several different male anime characters. Crow Hogan, Yusei Fudo, Jack Atlas, Yuya, Yuma, Judai Yuki...They are just so good-looking.

I can't help it, I'm a girl.

So how can I stop the attraction?

I have felt attraction to some real boys before in the real world, and have fallen in love with one of them, but when I let my feelings be known he rejected me outright and wouldn't date me -- and it hurt me emotionally for months. I don't think he realized how deeply turning me down actually hurt me. Maybe I took it too hard but his name was Daniel.

I remember watching the show Daria and feeling attracted to her character. She wasn't drawn beautiful but something about her personality made me feel drawn to her. I don't know why because she was really jaded but she also was halarious. Do you remember her and Gwen and let's see... there was a guy named Trent and he had a sister... anyway... I understand attraction to a cartoon character LOL

I don't know if it is common, but this is new to me. I would say don't worry about it. Great post! :) Merry Christmas.

I think it's just a form of escapism. Reality can be harsh and fictional characters can seem much more idealistic. If/when you find another guy you really like and he doesn't reject you, you will forget all about your fantasy crushes. Just don't go creeper and buy one of those anime pillows to sleep with. :p

BlueLioness, it's not just a girl problem, so you're not alone at all. I am a guy, and I had the same issues, but with female anime characters. One of them was Eri Sawachika from the anime School Rumble, among others. It was really, really bad.

I can't remember how I let go of all that, maybe through focusing on different anime series. But I remember when I lost focus on anime at all for a period of time, and watched real-life Japanese tv dramas, so that might have been what cured mine. I must mention, though, that all those things happened before I became a born-again Christian.

Don't worry I've had the same problems in the past as well ^.^ I used to adore this character called Kei from Special A. But I guess ya just gotta remember that they're not real and waaaaay to perfect to be human ;) I guess how I overcame the obstacle you're struggling with was just remembering that God has/might have someone in mind for you and not a fictional character. When ever I see an 'attractive' character I kinda have this automatic response where I remind myself 'he's not real, what good will he do me? He's just another pretty face with a fabulous personality - generic' They literally are they, they're all the same! I've kinda grown out of the character crushes because I automatically pick out all of the generic features that the creator has added to them on purpose - this puts me off them.... Don't know if that helps, probably doesn't XD

Agree it is a form of escapism, this will go away the moment you fall in love with someone real.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

To be honest, I'm always surprised when people say or imply that it's weird to like drawn characters. I don't see why it's weird.

I agree, I would be surprised too! But I don't actually know anybody who would find it weird, since most of the people I know have expressed some kind of attraction towards drawn characters. Besides, most people who have grown up watching Disney or any other cartoons have had some kind of crush on a character.:kissingheart:

One of my friends has said it's weird before, but it could just be because that's what they think is expected.
