What's the first PDA (pocket PC, smartphone, tablet) you owned, how many have you had since? Also, what was your favorite?

My first PDA was a Palm 3e, and I've owned 8 counting the Palm:
  • Palm 3e
  • HP Jornada 720
  • Sony Clie
  • Psion Revo Plus
  • HP Ipaq H2210
  • Blackberry Playbook (was a gift)
  • Asus Memo Pad HD7 (was also a gift)
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S LTE (my current device)
My favorites are/were the HP Jornada 720 and my current device the Galaxy Tab S LTE.

Until now I've only owned two smartphones, one from LG and one from Samsung. I only use them for calls and the occasional note.

The tablet market is rapidly approaching saturation. The hardware of today will be sufficient for the apps of tomorrow. As a result a lot of users are holding on to their devices which is creating a market bloat. A little different for PCs where powerful new games and graphics application debuts create a demand for faster video cards, CPUs, ect..

At the moment I can't imagine any scenario where I would buy a new tablet for at least 18 months.

My first was a HP IPAQ, second was a Kyocera Event, and finally an LG Lucid 2.

I prefer a UMPC though. There used to be great UMPC's byTablet Kiosk and Fujitsu....now it's all locked platforms of Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

I guess my first, and only, would be my current phone.
Though it's wasted on me as the only thing I really use it for (outside of ringing my family) is tracking my running speed.
Still, it counts as my favourite, because despite being an older Nokia Lumia it does the job.

Yeah, I'm not a cell phone person either. While everyone else in my family was tipping away on their smartphones, I was content with an old Motorola. The only reason I have a smartphone now is because of the hand-me-downs I get from my wife.

I'm very much into my tablet though.

Over the years I've watched the evolution of PDAs to Tablets and I am very pleased with the direction the technology is going. From tapping black text on a green screen in the 90s to playing movies on high definition screens of today, the jump into the future has been nothing short of amazing.

I'm sure ten years from now Tablets will have evolved into something much more powerful...can't wait!

I also had my ipad for 2 years before I replaced it because there are no more IOS updates available, so I can't download new games or apps. :( I had the ipad 1. Got it in 2012 or 2011, I can't remember exactly when. Anyway, had it for 2 years and it worked great for 2 years. The thing with tablets nowadays is that they are not only for personal use, but for business and work, as well. There is a restaurant near where I live and instead of the normal POS, they have an ipad mounted on their counter and a printer connected to it for receipt printing. You even have the option of having the receipt emailed to you instead to save on paper. Cool, huh? I wonder how that is done? Maybe I can get one when my plans for a business gets going.

If I look back at why I bought so many PDAs, I can see that my desires and needs evolved. It seems that between the 90s and 2010 or so if you wanted something more out of your device you had to upgrade by purchasing another device. Now smartphones and tablets are so powerful that instead of buying a new one when you want a new feature you just download an app. Some devices are advanced enough that you wouldn't need to upgrade to a new device for at least 18 to 24 months, maybe even longer.

Hi, Sheenagh:) I have heard about the ipad mounted and a printer connected for a receipt and yes, I agree that its so cool for a business. I guess, its an application that small entrepreneur use nowadays but I'm not so familiar on how to go about it. Maybe , you can search it online for details.

Well, there are a lot of things, really. I mainly use it for presentations, that is why I need one that I can use with a projector. On the other hand, there are those who are in the sales business. For example, one of the participants I had about a month ago worked with healthfusion and she used her ipad to show samples of their products.

Software that is integrated with your line of work is the "in" thing nowadays I guess and using your tablets to do something mobile is the way to go.
