Urgent Prayers for 4-Month-Old Baby

Finn had a great night. He was pretty much passed out except for every three hours when Tina woke him up to feed him and he took 2oz each time. He slept in the Mamaroo. I am so happy that he finally got some rest

Finn slept again last night!!! He is barely having any wet diapers so I am sure they will go up on his lasix. He ate two ounces every three hours. I'm just so glad he is sleeping at night bc during the day, he is very uncomfortable with this chest tube and is making it known.

Ok prayer warriors, Finn only has ONE more day to prove this chest tube is helping him. He put out 150 the first day and 150 the second day, if it doesn't show improvement by tomorrow, his surgery will be Friday or Monday for a PICC line and he will go in the OR under general anesthesia for the procedure. Doing the PICC line will give him JUST TPN and no feedings at all. His chest tube will still be left in assuming he keeps it in that long. There are a lot of risks that come with PICC lines so I am praying he shows improvement. I'll be keeping you all updated!

Finn just bought himself another day or two with NO PICC line!!! Woohoo!!! Improvement is improvement so we will see where the next few days take us. As Dr L'Ecuyer says 'maybe Finn has a little more magic that he can work'

Total chest output for the past 24hrs has been 50. The doctor came in and flushed the tube and said he doesn't think it's clogged. I'm still trying not to get TOO excited.

The doctor gave me a heads up that we are going to have to figure out what to do about his feeding bc he is eating a lot better but during the day he is in a lot of discomfort bc of the chest tube and oxy and Tylenol aren't really cutting it that great and there isn't really another pain med option for him.

I REALLY do not like NG tubes. Finn doesn't eat at all with them and he gets really congested so hopefully we don't have to get to that point!

Finn is the most confusing baby on the planet. Chest tube wasn't clogged, draining had significantly subsided, was eating alright, breathing great and seemed so happy! BUT, we get the X-ray results back and his effusions and edema are worse. He never follows the medical rules. Aye, aye, aye Finn! Since he is happy and comfortable, we are all going to sleep on this mystery over the weekend and reevaluate on Monday unless he shows discomfort or breathing changes.

We haven't had official 'rounds' yet but the two cardiologists came in because Finn's X-ray was even worse today. They wanted to take a look at his chest tube because he only had 5 mls that drained yesterday. Sure enough, the tube was twisted so they fixed it and flushed it and a pretty decent amount of fluid came off. They also did labs this morning and everything looks alright.

Plan for today is he NEEDS to eat more and drain more fluid and we really need to keep an eye on this tube to make sure it doesn't twist. So, for now, Finn is having a 'diaper day' so that we can see the tube better and monitor it. The entire time that Dr L'Ecuyer and Dr Michael were fixing the tube, Finn had his hand on it Dr L'Ecuyer tried to get Finn to hold his hand instead but Finn preferred the chest tube. What is it with babies and children in general only being interested in boring items like tubes and wires!? I have every toy imaginable in his wagon.

No more X-rays unless Finn shows that he needs one or if we have a chest tube concern. Have a great day!!!!
