I would agree it certainly is in the New Testament. It is not that way in the Tanach. There's really no such thing as evangelism in the Tanach.

If for these past 2000 years the church was way more concerned and focused with feeding the hungry and serving those in need than it was in saving souls, today the world would be a much better place. Of that I have no doubt. And with a lot more of humanity coming to Christ. It feels like an opportunity lost because things were upside down.

Imo, if charitable or evangelistic work resulted in prestige it would be a heckuva lot easier to recruit people to do it.

I think think of a number of Torah laws that speak about helping the poor, feeding them, how to cut your field so that the poor can gather the rest. I can think of a number of places in the Prophets that speak about helping the poor, the elderly, and the orphan.
