I had absolutely adored my room for years but I feel like I've grown out of its decor now. The walls are a bright leaf green with a mural of vines and songbirds wrapping around the room. It used to feel so charming to me but now it looks like Shrek has bled out on my walls, haha. The green is just SO bright. I like something more serene. I also need to update my bedding and art. I still have a SpongeBob Squarepants poster on my bathroom door. I'm considering repainting and updating it this week before school gets into full swing. I dislike it now and yet a part of me doesn't want to change it. I'm so sentimental sometimes.

I'm wondering what your room is like is what you'd change about it if you could. :)

EDIT:

I accidentally posted in this in the Christians only teen common area, but any teen or young adult is welcome to participate in this thread regardless as to whether or not they are a Christian. :)

We renovated last year and I love my room now. It used to be a cream colour and it was plastered in pictures of horses. My sisters and I love horses and we kind of went a bit crazy on pictures from our horse and rider magazines. We decided to paint it Feista Yellow...it is so sunshiny now. The room is so happy and friendly. I share a room with my sisters so we have one set of bunk beds and another twin bed. Our room does look more grown up now. It has a little less of a little girl look now although my one sister still is a bit crazy with minecraft so she has a HUGE creeper poster on the wall as well as a few of ever favourite celebrities on the wall. Our bathroom was renovated as well and it is a mint green colour. My dad built us all our own closets which I was delighted about for obvious reasons. Finally closet space!!
Good luck renovating. Try to pick something that reflects you more as an almost young adult. 16 is closer to adult than not...so embrace it and show show artist flair :)

My room is painted light blue with white blinds. It is my grandmother's guest bedroom, I just moved in this summer. So I got to pick the color: I have light blue with slightly darker blue for trim and white or wood accessories. I will try posting pictures in the morning.

The thing I would most like to change about it is the floor. The room used to have carpet, but the carpet was torn out a few years ago (it was 60 or 70 years old!) So the floor is this yellow-brown linoleum flooring with staples sticking out of it. I have some rugs to go over it and while I don't like the color of the rugs, they do match my room...

If I were to change one thing it would be putting carpet in on the floors. Oh, and my room is a mess... I should probably change that.

To those of you are younger, keep in mind that you may not be in that room for long... you'd hate to do a major renovation project and create your ideal room, just to leave home in another year and wind up staying in an empty apartment while your siblings complain about how your beautiful room isn't their favorite color. Go ahead and "grow it up" a little, (maybe white paint instead of Sleeping Beauty wallpaper,) but don't put too much effort into it. You probably won't be there for long.

Hip hip hooray! This thread has finally been dusted off and given a wonderful answer. I accidentally posted it in the underused Christians-only section of the teen forum, so I wasn't sure if anyone would venture over here. Thank you for your response!

Your room sounds so cheery and delightful! And it sounds........very familiar, haha. I showed a certain songbird this post because she was contemplating creating an account here and if she did, she was going to respond to it so it wouldn't just be sitting here unattended. She said her lovely sister was already a member. I'm guessing that's you, given the description of your room matching up perfectly with hers, down to the posters and the sunshiny yellow.

I do hope to add a new mural to my walls once I repaint them a more serene color. The bright green I once loved makes me feel like I'm being slimed by Nickelodeon, haha. I'll add some paintings of my own to the walls as well. I just need to decide on a paint color and roll up and my sleeves and get it done. You have so much artistic talent! Is the avatar picture one of your own works? It's so very beautiful. You should turn your room into an art gallery.

If you are who I think you are, *Hugs.* If you're not, then I apologize for being creepily over-familiar. :D

Edit:
YAY! Gracie has answered now, too!!! Thanks! I learn learning about people's rooms. I think our rooms are oftentimes reflective of our personalities and interests.

Rather empty tbh. The walls are white, I have a window, a lamp, a bed, a desk(with my computer and game consoles on it.) a dog bed for my dogs, a food and water bowel for my dogs, a closet, a shelf, one of those clothes holder thingys. I have some posters up of bands I like and some game posters. I really need more. The walls are kinda bare at some spots. I wouldn't change all that much. Maybe get a better fan in my room.

I will be kicking around home until I'm 21 at least and have no plans to live away so I'm glad we have spent the time renovating. My older brother just married this summer so I could steal his room if I wanted but I do really like sharing a room with my sisters. Plus I have younger brothers and sisters as well so our room will be well lived in over time :)

*Swoons.* Your room is SO LOVELY!!!!! It looks like the kind of room a Jane Austen character would inhabit. :)

Thank you for sharing the pictures!!!! I love them!!!!!

I'll try to upload pictures of my room when I'm back on my laptop. I'm away for the weekend and just have my phone and iPad, and no pictures of my room are stored on them. In the meantime, if you click on my profile picture you can see the color of my room in the background. It really had been a green I adored, but over time I just lost my love for it. It reminds me of Shrek every time I see it now, haha. I actually have two rooms I'd like to renovate a bit because my parents are divorced and I have a room at each of their houses. My room at my mom's house is a bit sedate, and my room at my dad's is a bit too loud. I need to find a Goldilocks "just right" balance.

Edit ------
It looks like a mini cherry blossom tree in your room. Is that real???? So beautiful!

Yeah. In that case, go ahead and renovate! Just make sure it's a color your sister(s) like :) And of course, some girls have an easier time agreeing on decorations than others - but it is fun to vote on paint swatches and stuff.

Personally, if I could go back to when my sisters and I all shared a big room and decorate it, I would give each of us bedspread + rug in the same pattern but different colors. Maybe in the sense that one has blue, one has green, one has yellow and one has pink. Or we could do it in, like, shades of pink or shades of purple... I think that would be cool. One basic color like white for the walls and then each girl's "area" has it's own different color.

I miss sharing a room!

Mine is similar. I guess most boy's rooms have something in common.

My room is pretty big.. There's enough room for a bed, two built-in wardrobes, One couch, a desk with all things needed for school etc. And a giant Muse-poster. I think I can use some more posters as well but no idea what to choose. I can post a picture to see what it's like, tell me if you'd like to see it!

Wow, I created this thread back in AUGUST, and unless you can count Christmas decorations I've yet to take down and an explosion of art supplies everywhere, I still haven't altered the look at all. I'd planned on repainting my room a serene sky gray because I feel like it's time to evolve my style beyond the Shrek green walls. I'd created an album with pics ages ago and neglected to post the link to it here to show you how GREEN they truly are. http://www.christianforums.com/users/354769-albums5991/

I'm so sentimental about my room, though, that I haven't made any changes. I have murals of vines with flowers and songbirds all around my room, and I love them even though they're a bit juvenile.

Props to Jennae, who is my friend in real life, for the cleverly creative idea to "frame" a portion of my green walls and change the rest.

Thank you for the recent posts to this thread. :)

It would be fun to see a pic if you're still up for sharing one!!!! Your room sounds really nice.

I don't really have a room, just a corner in my dad's office. So basically, my "room" is 3 feet in diameter. I have a table there, a chair, a small closet made of cardboard, and a poster. The things I don't like about it are:
1) It's cold.
2) The chair is uncomfortable.
3) I don't like the poster anymore.
4) The cardboard "closet" looks weird.
5) I don't get to have a curtain or anything.

Is this a temporary arrangement or a long-term one?

Ha. It still cracks me up that I knew this was your sister's post, before I even knew she'd made the account on here, by the room description. :D

Is anyone moving off to college this year and excited about living in the dorms and decorating your room there? Haha, I already have a Pinterest board for dorm decor and I haven't even graduated from high school yet.

I'm just so pumped about everything!

My room is about 150 square feet which is plenty for me. I have a TV, cushioned rocking chair, mushroom chair, lamp, clothes drawers, a twin bed, and a bookshelf with a digital clock on top.

The only things I would change about my room would be have a queen bed instead, and to renovate the room to look like a hotel room instead of a bedroom. I might would say reduce the size of my room but I must be careful about what I wish for.

I hadn't realised how spacious my room at home is, until living in Tokyo. My entire flat here, which I share, is the same of a bedroom. I love the location, so much, so it doesn't bother me. It's surprising, how much more homey you can make a temporary space, just with hanging up a few nice things, photos, and such.

We moved into a new house in August. We built the house ourselves. Well what I mean by that is we picked out the floor plan and features and stuff. We didn't actually construct it. I always wanted a window seat in my room. I have one now! We still need to get the cushions made for it. My room is pretty big. You walk in and there's the window seat on the left and a big window. Then there's my vanity and some drawers. On the back wall there's my TV and some shelves. I have two beanbags in front of the TV, on a rug. On the right of the door I have my drawers and my desk. Then there's my bed with matching nightstands on both sides. I have a gray and white floral duvet and a lavender blanket and pillows. Pretty much all the furniture is from IKEA but I like it a lot. It's all white. I haven't put posters or wall decoration up still. It's too bad the pictures people posted of their rooms don't show up anymore. It would be fun to see them.

Thank you for describing your room so well that I picture it in my mind. It sounds lovely. The color scheme of white furniture, a gray and white floral duvet, and lavender accents is so serene and pretty.

This site went through a major refurbishment in the spring, and for the most part it was a huge step forward. One drawback is that many pictures in older posts are no longer visible because of the format changes. I loved the pictures of Alyssa's room. She did a wonderful job decorating it, and is lucky that it's so spacious.

I'd uploaded a few pictures of my room, but I can't find them now. Instead of posting them directly here, I'd put them in an album that was viewable from my profile and then gave the link. The link is no longer valid, and the album disappeared from my profile, too. I used to have several albums with my paintings, the ones of my room, and a few random images, and they were all neatly arranged by my "about me" on my profile page. They disappeared after the site renovations. I'll try to upload more pictures later. In the meantime, I'll temporarily share a video that shows a bit of my room so you can see what I mean about Shrek green walls. I never did repaint my room or my bathroom (which is grape purple), though. And my poster of SpongeBob SquarePants rocking out is still on the back of my bathroom door, haha. I guess I don't want to let go of my childhood yet.

:hearteyecat::hearteyecat::hearteyecat: I love your room & your song, Stanfordella! You're so pretty! That song is beautiful! Your room doesn't look shrek green to me, lol. It's a nice green. Did you paint flower vines on your walls? I like my room. It's boring in a way but it's calm too. I like that.

That's so pretty. I'm confused but Stanfordella...weren't you a different name before?

We moved last month and now I don't need to share a room with my sister. I'm planning to renovate my room this year, but I have no idea how or what I will do. Right now the walls are off white and plain. I have a huge walk in closet which is incredible!! I'm hopeless at picking paint colours. Heck even my comforter is just plain. I think I need an interior decorator.

Teegan, I thought you had left us. It's lovely to see you back here. :) Yes, I used to go by Artemis but a few months ago I felt up for a change. I started Stanford in late September and my name is Ella, hence Stanfordella. It's not very creative but it is more representative.

A simple room can actually be really peaceful and rejuvenating. Your eyes aren't bouncing around the room looking at everything or overwhelmed by color; they're able to relax. I've seen so many pretty rooms where everything in it is white and plain, except for perhaps a vase of fresh flowers or one jewel colored pillow, or some other accent that adds just the right amount of liveliness so that it doesn't feel sterile.

When I first moved into my dorm room I was so exuberant about decorating it I didn't edit or restrain myself and instead covered virtually every inch of my little shoebox-sized space. I put so much tapestries and art up you could barely even see the walls. I have a single and was struggling with insomnia when I moved in, so I spent a few nights feverishly decorating. I adore peacocks but went so overboard it looked like they'd exploded in my room or something. After a couple of weeks I really paired back. I donated my tapestries and now you can actually see the walls. It makes the space feel bigger. My extravagance now is fresh flowers I get from the on-campus farmers market a couple of times a week.
