For the general, for the institutions of society, the rule is: affirmation of the world, in conscious opposition to the view of Jesus, on the ground that the world has affirmed itself! This general affirmation of the world, however, if it is to be Christian, must in the individual spirit to Christianized and transfigured by the personal rejection of the world which is preached in the sayings of Jesus....

There was a danger that modern theology, for the sake of peace, would deny the world-negation in the sayings of Jesus, with which Protestantism was out of sympathy, and thus unstring the bow and make Protestantism a mere sociological instead of a religious force. There was perhaps also a danger of inward insincerity, in the fact that it refused to admit to itself and others that it maintained its affirmation of the world in opposition to the sayings of Jesus, simply because it could not do otherwise.

-----Albert Schweitzer in "The Quest of the Historical Jesus."

Mr. Albert is right about negating the world. You don't have to be in any religion to realize this. Most institutions in the world have their shortcomings. The biggest glaring mistake of this world is its hunger for power and money - this causes the rich and strong in this world to be favored while the poor and weak neglected.

Again, this opposes the teachings of Christ in that we should prioritize the poor and weak.

Mr. Albert is wrong about religion. There is no religion, there is only right and wrong and those who teaches the Truth like Jesus Christ.

The motive for doing what is right is for love alone. If the motive is for salvation, then it becomes self-serving and that is hypocrisy. If the motive is to look good or to be accepted by a particular group then that is religion and hypocrisy also.

Jesus gave us the desire to discover love, not to look good or to be accepted by this world (that is corrupt), nor to be motivated by salvation.

Anything done apart from love is meaningless, you learn nothing.

Yes, love is the necessary ingredient, yet we need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

If you cannot be saved without fear then you are not really saved.

You are being motivated by fear rather than love.

Because if the source of the fear has been removed, you will return to your unsaved ways.

The purpose God or Christ is not to instill fear but to make you choose love out of your own free will.

If you did it out of fear, then it's fake.

Only love is not the entire realm of God. That is, I think, one dimensional convenient thinking!

Matthew 10
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Psalms 2
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Probably addressed to people who are ignorant of God, which for some time, included the disciples too.

John 15:15
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Notice Jesus saying "no longer" which means He called them servants BEFORE. which means BEFORE, they were ignorant.

So what is God or Jesus to you, a friend or a master?

"I desire mercy, not sacrifice" - Jesus

Mercy = logical righteousness and love

Sacrifice = meaningless religious belief and rituals - intentional suffering for the sake of salvation, motivated by salvation, driven out of fear of hell fire, self-righteousness instead of love.

The true concept of justice is accepting the consequence of one's actions for the sake of what is right even if that means being thrown to hell - this is what earned the attention of Jesus by one of the thieves with Him on the cross.

You cannot force yourself to do what is right. You do what is right out of your nature. A nature that is born of God - and you cannot rush this. All in good time.

This is why religions are in turmoil because they are doing things in ignorance.

We need to strive towards perfection, it can never be achieved in our life time! I continue to learn more about Jesus, i.e., truth. Jesus is both Friend and Master to me, yet I continue to be His servant as His witness. God the Father is both God of Jesus and us.
