I was witnessing to the homeless and giving them food and clothes and Bibles! A demon showed himself through one of the homeless people and tried attacking me and I cast the demon from that homeless person! the next day I truly wanted to witness to the homeless people in my city! for some reason or another being pregnant and with my son of one year-old I was fearful of putting myself and my son in that predicament! God for bid I didn't have the strength to cast out any demons in the name of Jesus, being I've never ever done it before! Truly truly they need it more and would be the best disciples cuz they have no worldly possessions to keep them from following his word! But they are also the most riddled with demons and sickness as well, my sisters illness introduced me to this idea ? Maybe the Lord does wants me to save them?! God bless

Hi Lori, unless you are absolutely sure the Lord is calling you to it, I would not begin a ministry like this on your own. Most cities have mission organizations already working with the homeless, the poor, with inner city kids, and with those in prison. Find one (or more) of these type of ministries in your hometown and join in.

Yours in Christ,
David

Well I once had a waking thought that I did the same thing...actually just about everyday! Always wanted to help the homeless in some way but lack the nerve and basic people skills to do it effectively, other than simply handing out a couple of bucks to someone. But David is right in pointing out there are ministries and programs that do this, but still not as much as you would think. And almost no Churches have programs devoted to this on a regular basis, especially on a one on one basis with people on the street.
But if you have the time and means to do so,i would just say why not take a stroll through the city one day,in a safe neighborhood/area,and there's a chance you could just run into someone who is needing some help in some way. That's basically how it usually happens with me,when I least expect it. But if you never go,you'll never know...
Good Luck~

Also, just thought I would add that a lot of Christians with good intentions will try to talk you out of doing such things in helping people, partly because it makes them look bad for doing nothing, and partly because there own church has never been involved in such things,so therefore it must not be a part of God's plan to serve in such ways. But didn't Jesus say something about..."when I was sick, you visited me..."? And a lot of us,(me included) fail to do even the minimal service in praying for the sick.
Anyway, just keep this is mind whenever someone tries to talk you out of doing something, rather than doing nothing at all.

Hi,
When my first calling to do what you are doing came, I listened. I did. That was about ten years ago. I was surprised when I called up an agency for their help one day. I was counseled to decided when I was to leave. They were suggesting that everyone gets burnt out eventually.
No! That was not going to happen to me. It did. I felt guilty and horrible. God, yours and mine, helped me through everything. Now, I have an extremely good working knowledge of that group and still from time to time try and help out.
It is not without it's dangers. I have had death threats, credible ones from even some of those I worked with. I hope they were just blusters, but they were clearly there. Even the police knew and helped me with one player.
Yes a demon and mental illness were involved. I did what God wanted me to do, for as long as He wanted me to do that, but there did come a day, when I had been in there too long.
LOVE,
...Mary., .... .
