• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

The last couple of days haven't been good for me. I seem to be very moody and snap at people without a reason. I feel down that I haven't found a church to be a part of. I've been reading my bible and exercising and that helps some. Gym is closed today due to Memorial day. I'm not sure what difference that makes, but oh well.

I can certainly relate to what you've written. For me there isn't always a reason. In fact, some of my most irritable times have been when things were better than ever. The main thing I can do for myself and particularly others when I get irritable, is to not let my behavior follow the irritability, i.e., I can't let myself act untoward. If I do, I must recognize it, make any necessary amends, and let Christ be my guide. Does this make sense?

I struggle with unwarranted irritability as well. I hate to admit it, but for me the underlying issue is probably bitterness, envy, self-loathing and pity, unforgiveness, and related sins. There has to be some cause, be it environmental, spiritual, or mental. Try to identify this and define it as specifically as possible. Then - do not ignore it - but attack it in an effort to overcome it. For example, if the root cause was identified to be a lack of fellowship, get out and go somewhere, anywhere. Start a conversation with a stranger. Volunteer or lend a helping hand. Alternatively, focus on the blessings of solitude. Meditate on God's Word and focus on the simple pleasures of life.

Yes, it does. In other words, don't take it out on others.

I know part of the issue is that I started physical therapy on my arm last week and I am discouraged with how that is going. I have a bulging disc in my neck which caused some nerve damage in my arm last year. Now, the pain is gone and I am trying to rebuild my strength in my right arm. I have some pride and it bothers me to see how I am struggling with such a small amount of weight. There are some other things going on as well.
