During his speech at the Coast Guard Academy Obama told the graduates about to deploy on station the greatest threat they would face was that posed by global warming.

Geez...

Hey I'm curious how the COAST GUARD will be affected by ISIS. Do ISIS have a Navy that has come near the US shores that I haven't heard of? OR IS IT THE USUAL ONE-ISSUE-AT-A-TIME mentality that brings about this silliness?

I'm curious. Because that cartoon looks really ignorant and uninformed. But I understand. When facts threaten....

Here's a hint for you: what does the US Coast Guard deal with? Islamic extremists in the Levant OR ISSUES RELATED TO, you know....the US COAST?

Can you figure out from the name?

Then why have the models been so dismally wrong about it?
1) They are models. They are not guaranteed to be right.
2) There are models that are wrong. There are models that are right.

So I guess my question is:
What about the models that have been right?

My very next question is: Why are you focused on models when there's demonstrable evidence of something that should elicit, at least, a bit of concern?

Evidence of this?
Evidence of this?
I'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you - you won't listen anyways.

It's not like you're ignorant that the scientific community has reached a consensus - it just doesn't agree with the reality you choose to live in, so you ignore it.

Hey I'm curious how the COAST GUARD will be affected by ISIS.

Then perhaps you should actually consider the subject. Note that the Coast Guard has eleven stated missions, to include "migrant interdiction." ISIS operatives are just as likely to attempt to enter the United States by sea as they are from the open southern border. I understand the majority of the American left would welcome them with open arms but there are still members of the US military, to include the Coast Guard, whom understand both the threat posed by Islamic terrorist and how they can contribute to interdiction and prevention. They also understand they can't put to sea and wave their arms around thus preventing any rise in sea level or increase in CO2.

In addition, irony is often precious:

Exclusive: The CIA Is Shuttering a Secretive Climate Research Program

On Wednesday, when President Barack Obama spoke at the US Coast Guard Academy's commencement ceremony, he called climate change "an immediate risk to our national security." In recent months, the Obama administration has repeatedly highlighted the international threats posed by global warming and has emphasized the need for the country's national security agencies to study and confront the issue.

So some national security experts were surprised to learn that an important component of that effort has been ended. A CIA spokesperson confirmed to Climate Desk that the agency is shuttering its main climate research program. Under the program, known as Medea, the CIA had allowed civilian scientists to access classified data—such as ocean temperature and tidal readings gathered by Navy submarines and topography data collected by spy satellites—in an effort to glean insights about how global warming could create security threats around the world. In theory, the program benefited both sides: Scientists could study environmental data that was much higher-resolution than they would normally have access to, and the CIA received research insights about climate-related threats.

But now, the program has come to a close.

The silliness is a sitting US President telling men and women about to enter the service of the United States military the greatest threat to them will be from global warming. Tell me, amanuensis, what is the Coast Guard supposed to do about the horrors of global warming?

Of course there is one area of the global warming debate the Coast Guard could have some impact on, the defense against liberalism promoting an agenda such as the one espoused by these guys:

I'm curious. Because that cartoon looks really ignorant and uninformed. But I understand. When facts threaten....

The facts are ISIS has, on numerous occasions, taken men and women dressed on orange jumpsuits down to the beach, lined them up on their knees, and executed them. The facts are our President told Coast Guard graduates global warming was a serious threat to national security. Extrapolating from that base line if you can't fathom the point of the cartoon the problem isn't with the cartoon.

Here's a hint for you: what does the US Coast Guard deal with? Islamic extremists in the Levant OR ISSUES RELATED TO, you know....the US COAST?

This comment is truly one of a kind.

Or you could actually look at what the Mission of the US Coast Guard actually includes.

From their website: "OUR MISSION - PROTECT THE PUBLIC, THE ENVIRONMENT,
AND U.S. ECONOMIC INTERESTS" (SOURCE)

If you'd like, here are the top 11 missions they are specifically tasked with: HERE

  • Ports, waterways, and coastal security
  • Drug interdiction
  • Aids to navigation
  • Search and rescue
  • Living marine resources
  • Marine safety
  • Defense readiness
  • Migrant interdiction
  • Marine environmental protection
  • Ice operations
  • Other law enforcement

Now I understand that ANY time the environment is mentioned it HAS to be denigrated by those on the Right as silly and meaningless. But I really cannot imagine how ISIS is more important to the US Coast Guard than something they may actually be responsible for dealing with.

AND interestingly enough when one deals with things like ICE OPERATIONS, MARINE RESOURCES and MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION that is explicitly touched on by AGW.

I also understand that most Skeptics on the right don't understand the science, nor do they have the interest to LEARN it sufficient to make trenchant points, but just because one doesn't understand science doesn't mean they get to throw up ISIS as the answer to EVERYTHING.

'The President's speech was so farcical in its claims that it hardly merits a response. Contrary to the President’s claims, it seems ISIS may in fact trump ICE as a bigger concern. Actually believing Obama’s climate claims, undermines our nation’s ability to distinguish real threats from politically contrived nonsense. UN climate treaties and EPA climate regulations will not prevent wars, conflicts or impact the creation of terrorist groups.

LOL.

Obama has been such a threat to America that 7 years after his election the US no longer exists! It is in a shambles! The Stock Market is at ALL TIME RECORD HIGHS, millions of Americans can get healthcare when they couldn't before and ISIS is literally attacking our shores!

Just this morning in my small town here in Southern California the National Guard had a gun battle with ISIS insurgents intent on marching north and taking over Stockton! Los Angeles fell just a few days and Sharia law was established!

The funny thing is we know that climate change can destroy civilizations. WE HAVE HISTORICAL EVIDENCE OF IT. The Anasazi, the Maya, the list goes on!

But in the WAR ON OBAMA "facts" and "evidence" are SELDOM of value.

LOL.

Given that the Anasazi and Maya civilizations largely disintegrated about 800 years ago are you now arguing in favor of current weather being the product of natural variations rather than AGW?

Nope. Considering how well armed a majority of our country is. I would say it is safe to say.. nobody really poses a threat. Texas proved that. :)

The difference in interpretation is unsurprising.

The author of the article, James Taylor, is a senior fellow at the ExxonMobil funded Heartland Institute.

Why is it that whenever there is a new article posted on this forum disputing the consensus on climate change, it is always so easy to link it to vested interests? (That's a rhetorical question).

Just follow the money....

Details, details....

April 2015 was Earth's fourth warmest April since global record keeping began in 1880, said NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) on Tuesday. NASA rated April 2015 as the 3rd warmest April on record. April 2015's warmth makes the year-to-date period (January - April) the warmest such period on record, and the past twelve months the warmest 12-month period in recorded history. Nine of the ten warmest 12-month periods have occurred within the past two years (the exception: September 1997–August 1998 was tied for eighth warmest.) http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2994
