Ask me questions.

I know a pastor that confided in me that he often must balance biblical teachings with the needs and wants of a congregation, with the obvious implication that they sometimes conflict. As most pastors receive their income directly from their congregations, do you feel this is a persistent problem especially in matters of conscience?

Pastors/Preachers in most church settings typically have the role, or major role, of leading, teaching and preaching to a congregation who's job is to listen and consider what they have heard. Without quoting the hierarchy given in some of the Epistles, how would you explain this role in light of verses like Matthew 23:7-11?

Hexi, A good pastor will always put scriptural teachings ahead of the congregation. Where there is error in the congregation, it must be fixed. Pastors are shepherds, and this vocation is spelled out in the bible. I understand you don't want me using the Epistles, but on what basis do you ask that then?

jsimms, I have a dog named Baz (short for Mahershalahashbaz, even though she's a girl dog. The things you put up when your husband knows weird things), and two cats - DeeGees and Halo.

those are some really unique pet names
Heh, yes they are. Halo came to us already named, but we named Baz and DeeGees. DeeGees is actually DGS - which stands for Daughter of the Ghost of Sammy. We lost our first kitty in a house fire and his name was Sammy. There was a neighbor cat who roamed around who looked eerily just like Sammy, although much lighter, so he was dubbed "Ghost of Sammy". A few years later, this kitty showed up on our doorstop after the neighbors who had been feeding her were evicted. She looked A LOT like the Ghost of Sammy, so we dubbed her Daughter of the Ghost of Sammy...DGS. Most people don't understand DGS on its own, so we spell it out DeeGees.

We also had a cat named Lola but we had to ship her off to a farm because she didn't like being indoors with the other pets once we moved.

My momma is a pastors wife too. She is also a pastors daughter.
She always swore she wouldn't marry a pastor. I guess technically she didn't. My dad wasn't a pastor when they married. They met when he was on missions in Scotland.

What denomination are you?
How many children do you have?
Have you ever homeschooled?
Do you lead any women's studies or children's ministries?
Did you ever feel pressured to be the perfect wife and mother?
Do people expect your kids to be well behaved all the time?
Do you ever feel like you live in a fishbowl?

That's cool! Yeah, I never thought I could pull off being one. I still am not sure how I do it...I do know that involves a lot of me shutting up!! :D

What denomination are you?

We are WELS - Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, one of the more conservative/confessional branches of Lutheranism.

How many children do you have?

We have four boys - a 20 year old, and then a 9, 8 and a 7 year old.

Have you ever homeschooled?

We have not, and probably won't unless there's not a Lutheran WELS school in our area. I honestly do not possess the patience that homeschooling requires. I can't even teach my boys how to play piano, let alone ALL of the subjects!

Do you lead any women's studies or children's ministries?

I don't, but only because we have some very talented women in our congregation who do these things. I merely show up!

Did you ever feel pressured to be the perfect wife and mother?

Ya know, I really don't. I thought I would, but I realized a long time ago that I wouldn't be able to make everyone happy. I'm a sinner like everyone else, and while we may live in a glass house, I know that I will make mistakes like other moms/wives.

Do people expect your kids to be well behaved all the time?

My childrean are perfect little angels already. :holy: And if you believe that, I have a bridge for you. Fortunately for us, our congregation is very helpful when it comes to our boys, especially if I'm playing organ and our oldest is not present. The boys do manage to cause trouble now and then, but nothing major!

Do you ever feel like you live in a fishbowl?

Yes and no. There are certain times when the fishbowl seems more obvious, like when our oldest decided to drop out of college midway through his first semester. And then there are times where we feel like we don't even exist. And then, thankfully, there's the happy medium where we just ARE.

Thanks for the questions! I loved them!

God's blessings!
