Anyone out there who have attempted at growing plants out of seeds? What little baby plants have you tried sprouting? Any success stories? :)

I myself have successfully planted fresh seeds, such as mandarin and lemons, and they're 1 year old now. Some 20-25 altogether. ^_^ I just love growing little things as such. Now I am contemplating on planting orange seeds the way I do it, but I have yet to find fresh orange seeds in my oranges that we get here.

I live in the Netherlands, and I plant these citrus seeds in little pots from around January, and then they germinate 1 month or 2 later for me. Inside on a fence, where there's direct sunlight.

I had a lot of success with a certain variety of tomato plant last year. So I saved some seeds from it for this growing season, just planted them about a week ago. Hope they do as good as before. Can't remember what the kind is called though.

We have a small garden space in our backyard, with enough room for about three or four tomato plants.

I'm an avid vegetable and flower grower - all from seed. I'm based in southern England. I grow leeks, broccoli, garlic, onions, aubergines, courgettes, French beans, potatoes, broad beans, brussel sprouts, cabbages, lettuces and all kinds of herbs. Also grow raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and apples.

There is something wonderful and life confirming about growing something from seed!

That's cool man. I've got a cherry tomato variety that we've been continuing from seed for several years.
I've also got a very small garden, about 20 square meters but I'm designing the heck out of it. It's got a fish pond, compost pile, beds for cultivation, brick pathways and areas of wild vegetation. I've been surprised by how much fun it is to take a small area and meticulously landscape it. It's like having a toy farm.

There's a fad in the US called "square foot gardening" where people make extremely rich soil in raised beds and then plant densely by the square foot. They do crazy stuff like 4 corn plants per square foot and it works because their soil is so rich.

I've got some second generation cucumbers that are doing nicely.

Last years failure with dill is this years success with dill. The few scraggly plants that went to seed have children in nice places.

My tomato seeds are getting old. Last years success there is this years failure. I did tomatoes for the varieties. I'm not going to bother with seeds to get a variety I can get at the nursery as a plant.

Hiya there!

I've only started growing my own veggies 4 years ago. I've succeeded with some and failed miserably with others.
So far, I've managed to grow carrots, bell peppers, jalapeños, cherry and steak tomatoes, and cucumbers from seed. Carrots definitely grow better in a spacious raised bed.

The ones that I didn't do so good with were, strawberries, melons, green beans and squash. :(

I rent a plot at my town's community garden. Such a great experience, meeting new folks and sharing advice etc. :)

I'm growing everything from seed this year. Tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions, celery, cucumber, peppers, peas, beans, broccoli, cabbage, kale, zucchini, cauliflower, turnips, many herbs & sunflowers. I'm also going to try and save the seeds from the plants so I won't have to buy them next year.

My tomato plants are making slow progress, I probably need to water them more. Have special irrigation tubing, but never got around to install it. Think I should have some tomato by now. Will set it up tomorrow when I get a chance. What a major mistake for my garden.

Did you set it up yet?:congrat:
When did you started planting your tomatoes? I was bad this year, I just finished planting everything yesterday. But all is good!
All it needs is lots of love and care. Let's see how it all grows :)

I just setup the irrigation tubing. It all connects to the main sprinkler system, which is on a timer. Believe I planted the seeds back in February, had been watering them by hand with a hose. My area is very small, only have 5 plants.

I would suggest starting out with bean seeds. Those things never EVER let me down. There are numerous other vegetable seeds to grow but some of them work best if you start the seeds inside and transplant young plants into the ground (that gets them a head start and some strength against the elements and pests).
