I moved from Alaska to key west, and here have discovered, not only the evils in the world, but the evils in me. I allowed myself to be influenced to drugs and alcohol, i've been hustled, swindled, stolen from, attacked, and influenced by people who only "act" like friends. you name it just being too trusting and too social oriented. Then ended up being like my coworkers, i need words and friends of Christ! please help me :(

First off, I am sorry you have been treated so badly. Is there a place you can go for help like a Church? Going through such experiences is not pleasent experience at all. But if you are feeling "choked", tell God. Tell him everything you are feeling and ask him to help you. We have all done some sort of terrible things in our life, we can't change that. But we can change our future. I would also stay away from the people who claimed to be your friends. Don't put yourself in harms way anymore. I will be sure to pray for you.

Do you have to remain in Key West?

Yes getting out of a bad environment is good. In AA it is taught that drinking or addiction in general is about people, places and things. I work with people that are currently addicted to drugs or alcohol. And keeping my own addiction to alcohol in check through Christ. Op it sounds like you are in a very stressor environment, lacking a true connection with others and has triggers for you to use. If you can move do so as those whom I served trying to get free of their addictions found it more difficult to do so if they were housed in environments that were saturated with the drug they used (dealers etc).

You need fellowship, support and encouragement. Others have already recommended going to a Church. Is a transfer possible?

Praying for you

Trust me it's not hard to get back to God. He never left your side even through all that, why do you think you're still alive and it definitely wasn't luck or by your efforts. If the devil wanted to finish you off he would have, but god watches over his children. Like I said God never left but you where just ignoring him, so now it's time to go back home to your father.

1.) Ask for forgiveness
2.) Thank Him that he never let the devil destroy you
3.) Rededicate yourself to God
4.) Laugh about what you been through lol and enjoy just conversating with your father and do some catching up :)

first of all, you need to loose that condemnation of yourself - all have sinned and fallen short. use the mercy God has extended to you to receive your forgiveness so that you can step back into grace (undeserved favor not based on your performance). God can see the end from the beginning; He knew you'd blow it and He chose you anyway because He could see what you will be - always agree with Him about that.

next, practice hearing God's voice in something with minor consequences with a 'yes/no' answer - such as 'do i wear this shirt today Father?' - He cares about every detail of your life, and this will exercise your faith and help you to recognize His voice. then when you ask a critical question such as 'should i move away from here Lord?', you will be more able to hear that still, small voice that He uses to speak to you.

lastly and most importantly, change what you see, hear, and think about. He wants us to 'be wise in that which is good and simple in that which is evil'. read your Bible every day when you are fresh. focus on Paul's letters as they deal with life's problems. talk to God in your mind as you go through your day as if He was always right there inside of you (because He is). find some good faith-based teachings to listen to instead of watching secular TV or socializing with people who don't make knowing God a priority in their life (Keith Moore and Andrew Womack have free downloads). train yourself to meditate on what you read in the Bible and expect God to reveal the meaning to you.

you may loose friends and find yourself physically alone for a time, but those are the times when you will be most attentive to hear from God.

that's a mouthful; and doing that will keep you busy all day and night (it does me) - but if you are serious about being a person of faith, these things are requirements.

God loves you; He chose you when you were at your worst because He has faith in you - always agree with Him about that!

Since this post years ago, many weaknesses have become strengths. I have never been closer to God, and am drawing near daily. I experienced the saving power of God during that time in a way that I never had before. Not only that but I have acknowledged the call to ministry that I was running from and am being trained. The goodness and mercy of God is beyond compare. He who has been forgiven much loves much and God truly does make things work together towards good.

Well, be sure and take personal responsibility there.

Foremost. And pray out to God to help you with these temptations.

Some do not like AA or NA, and I can understand that, but that sort of group I have found can be very helpful for Christians to get out of such difficult social circles and find sober ones.

This is great to hear. We all need his grace. God is great!

If I were you, I would start setting up some time every day for devotions and prayer with God. Make it a priority. It'll be a struggle at first, but the more you put into it, the more rewarding it will be. Keep a journal where you list your prayers each day so that you can see when God answers them. Speaking with a pastor will also be very helpful to you. He can pray for you and help encourage you. He should also be able to point you to resources that will help get you clean and into a better environment.
