Does He care about our perspective on things? Does he care about opinions in general?
Or does he just want us to shut up and listen to Him? He's the boss, right? Only His opinion matters?
Love Trump, hate Trump. Does it matter in the end? (just an example, didn't want this to be political)

Hi BCP, "does God care about our opinions"? Historically, the answer appears to be "yes" (i.e. Isaiah 1:18; Genesis 18:22-33; Psalms 37:4), but I think He does so as a Father would with His young children. He sees the "big picture" of our lives, for instance, which is a picture that we simply cannot see for ourselves. In the end, He knows what's best for us (even when we normally do not) and wants that for us (Romans 8:28), and He helps us come to that understanding (if we will only let Him, that is ;)).

I think this life is a matter of growing in greater and greater trust of that fact, and of course, of Him :amen:

Makes me wonder what people mean when they say they "have a relationship with God".

Look I think I know what you mean. I have a problem with God as authority figure and friend at the same time. God, it seems is multi-dimensional and we have to learn to embrace that.

Which, in my understanding, necessitates that God embraces all those aspects, too.

I suggest He cares about how we Christians, individually, perceive things.

That's a bit rough. I would word it as "He wants us to understand He knows what He's doing". Bearing in mind He is omniscient, one cannot think about this rationally and decide "we" (actually "I") know much better about anything than does God.

Ultimately, yes in fact. Or, we can decide He isn't omniscient or not paying attention or getting a bit 'drifty'. Which leads nowhere good.

When our last President was elected - twice - I have to admit to being horrified. I had some rather queasy moments and serious concern about the future of our country (the United States for those of you not 'here'.) But, in the end I trusted God to take care not only of me, but of my family, my loved ones and the country.

Without trying to sound 'holy' - and of course I'm an example to everyone - I did pray and ask God to direct the (last) President in the proper way and have him (the last President) to be the best President the country could have.

I wish I could say that's never happened to me. It has. In the end I had to admit I was either looking at things wrong or simply not trusting Him. I have no idea if that's what is going on with you, Paul, but it's my experience, if it helps.

Oh sure God cares about our opinions; at least the relevant ones. Imagine a person who says "In my opinion, truth doesn't matter" or "In my opinion, women are less than men and should be treated with contempt" or "In my opinion, hate is better than love" etc. etc. I'd say God cares a lot about our opinions.

I don't believe God wants us to "Shut up and listen to Him" end of story; but perhaps, "Shut up and listen, then think and respond; grow in knowledge and understanding": God is our friend (even Father), and friends like exchange of ideas and mutual conversation and reciprocation. He isn't looking to "be the Boss" but is looking to bring us all into a state of equality as one harmonious whole without need of a "boss" (except perhaps the "boss" of love): bear in mind Jesus said that the one that would be "greatest of all" is the one who would be "servant of all"

Seeing as we will be judged in light of our opinion and actions, salvation being contingent upon our "opinion" of Christ, yes God does care about our opinions.

Hi BCP,

Well, let's try some. In my opinion chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla, but mango beats them all. In my opinion black cars seem sportier than white ones. In my opinion President elect Trump should not have been voted in as the president. In my opinion the school board should abandon any type of dress code and just let kids wear what they want.

What do you think? Does God care about your opinion?

My perspective on things is that the people who wrote the bible just needed a scapegoat to be the bad guy so they wrote about this 'thing' called Satan and made him the bad guy. I don't believe that he even exists. That's my perspective.

What do think? Does God care about your perspective?

God bless you,
In Christ, ted

I think our actions, attitude and heart will outweigh our opinion on whether for instance, Catholicism is the fullness of truth.

Socrates illustrates the doctrine of the divided line...
metaphor_of_the_line.gif

In metaphor of prisoners tied up in the cave. Having making the journey to the upper world they pass from opinion to actual knowledge. In the world of the ideal, as illustrated below, we find Justice at the very top. To form opinions require us to make judgements of our reality. God therefore cares about out opinions, not that he may agree with them, but our opinions form judgements, which we will be accountable for in that last day...
