According to the artical, it looks more like the Muslem side of the world. What do you expect the US to do? Invade every country that is Muslem dominated?

It is not just in Muslim countries but also in communist countries and in ultra-nationalist countries like Burma.

the US should protect its citizens. If they are christian, atheist, or muslim. people who aren't under US law cant be helped very much. paulos is right, we cant invade other countries to protect a religious group, it violates what freedom of religion is. Now if an american Christian is in a foreign country and is arrested or killed for his beliefs, same as any other reason, the US should respond

What action would you like to see taken?

Can't this be solved by means other than war?

I mean if a US citizen is being persecuted for a belief, then the government should respond to help them, not necessarily war but they shouldn't let them be wrongly imprisoned.

No, they are not. The USA, the most powerful (or second-most powerful, depends on how you view China) country in the world, is a Christian nation. Western Europe is mostly Christian, too, although I guess they are more secularized then America.

What Merkel said about Christians being the most oppressed religion in the world might be true, from a certain point of view. You just have to consider that most oppressed religious people are Christians (according to 'experts', I guess) without also considering that Christianity has more members than any other religion. Maybe there are 30 million oppressed Christians in the world, but that's not much if you compare it with the 950 million Christians who are not being oppressed (I made this numbers up, but I guess using the real numbers wouldn't change much).

From your article:
In 1990, there were over 1.2 million Christians in Iraq but by the end of 2003, there were fewer than 500,000; in 2013, there are fewer than 200,000 Iraqi Christians. In 2010, al Qaeda militants attacked a Baghdad cathedral, killing over 50 people and maiming many more. While Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites are deeply divided, they are united in their persecution of Christians. Bishops and priests have been kidnapped and tortured; churches are bombed, killing and injuring Christians. The message, sometimes sent in letter containing a bullet, has been delivered: "Christians should leave or die."
What the author fails to consider is that Iraq has seen an insane amount of abuse since it started to manufacture chemical weapons (which no one has ever found). Of course people are being oppressed in during times of war, that's nothing special. If you have a problem with that, how about you stop starting wars?

Should the United States government do more to defend the religious rights of Christians around the world?
Are we talking about human rights here? Well, I'd rather not have my human rights defended by a violent bully who started at least one war under false premises, experimented on his own citizens without their consent and still tortures prisoners of war. The USA have a terrible human rights record for a western nation, and if you ask me, they should just shut the heck up about human rights until they have closed their secret prisons.

if they're secret how do you know about them.

Again, what do you want to see done by the US to protect the rights of Christians in other nations?

Out of curiosity are you similarly concerned with other human rights abuses or just the religous freedom of Christians?

I am concerned about defending the religious rights of all the major religions. Perhaps diplomatic sanctions can be placed on countries that do not recognize the religious rights of Christians.

What religious group is more persecuted worldwide today than Christians? Why are these many sources, legitimate sources, legitimate studies, showing it to be the case that Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world?

What type of persecution do you face on a day to day basis?

Christians are the most oppressed religion in the world. Should the United States government do more to defend the religious rights of Christians around the world?

Why should it? The United States isn't a Christian nation, and the oppressed individuals aren't US citizens. I don't really understand why the US should be helping out.

Why limit it to major religions? Are people some how less deserving of having their freedoms defended if they ate members of smaler religions?

It's worth pointing out that the persecution faced by Christians most often takes place where Christianity is a minority view point.

Perhaps diplomatic sanctions can be placed on countries that do not recognize the religious rights of Christians.

I would support sanctions against nations that abuse religious rights but again why the focus on Christianity rather then just religous freedom?

OK, still what do you want to do? There is only so much the US can do without force.

I don't mind fighting for equality, why focus on one group?

I think putting sanctions or going to war with these nations that abuse Christians will only create more suffering and pain for everyone, including Christians. I think the best we can do is talk to these countries, help the people become aware of these issues, and pray.
