Hidden wasn't sayingthere was alcohol in the food. They were saying they would be hesitant is that often we make alcohol acceptable by our actions. They are just concerned it might be sending the wrong message to your daughter regarding alcohol. I know when I was old enough to drink people at church introduced me to a drinking culture. Luckily as it was starting to get out of control I realised I was starting to have a problem. So just be careful in the message your sending. I did think what I was doing so she had no alcohol.

I mix sherry wine with my macaroni and cheese all the time. There's nothing wrong or illegal about it. Rum cake isn't illegal for minors. I think(don't quote me on this), the laws for alcohol with minors is based on alcohol percentage of the entire food. Since 1) you're baking most of it off, and 2) you're mixing the wine with other ingredients, you should be fine from a legal standpoint.

Not an option at all. Groceries were low/non existent and I was trying to make dinner interesting.Legally, parents can give their children alcohol. It's not culturally acceptable here to crack open a bottle of wine and share it with the kids over dinner, but it's perfectly legal.
(Although getting the kids roaring drunk is bound to get child services involved! Would not recommend. )
