How many of you can actually see in the spiritual realm? If so was it something that you asked/prayed for or did it just happen? I have been asking God to open my spiritual eyes and ears so that I may "see" for months...I know that it IS for all believers that believe so I eventually will be able to "see" because:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." -Matthew 7:7-8

"Seeing" is one of the desires of my heart, I have been preparing for it for months. A friend of mine who can "see" says that she just asked God for the ability, and was able to from then on.

All of our physical senses have spiritual functions as well. Sometimes believers see flashes of light and don't realize what they are. Just ask Yahweh what you're seeing, ok? Here's a couple of Scripture to support what I've posted.

1) Daniel 10:5-6 "Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude."
2) Matthew 28 (KJV) 1 “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow."

Just continue to be patient. It's in His timing.

:) hi

seeing in the spirit doesn't always necessarily mean you see things physically that others don't ... it means to see things without the flesh involved ... from a spiritual point of view ...

for example discerning ... that is, seeing beyond what the physical eyes can see and seeing spiritually ... knowing when certain spirits are in your presence ... like when someone enters a room and begins talking to you ... knowing, for example, that the spirit of pride is present ... or anger or the lying spirit ... or that the words a person are speaking are not of the Lord ... that, too, is to see spiritually ... the most common way of seeing spiritually ...

guess a heightened sense of what is taking place around oneself spiritually is a good way to put it ... spirits not of the Lord have a nasty habit of attaching to unsuspecting souls ... one must know how to recognize them, rid them, and many things ... if one is to see them beyond the physcial eyes, one must know what they are looking for ...

and yes, it can go beyond 'seeing' spirits to physcially seeing them ... but first comes the work to understand the spirits ... the spirit world is a crazy world of sorts ... both spirits are present ... it's all about studying to know which is which ... or how would one know which they were seeing ... you may have already done that ... wanted to speak on this in the event others are reading ...

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't miss Him opening your eyes and ears spiritually because you expect to actually, physically see and hear the spirits ...

at any rate, yes, keep praying and learning ... it will come ... God is faithful ... and oh so faithful to His Word ...

yes, from time to time have caught a glimpse of physical view ... but it's usually a shadow whizzing by ... and, for me, it's usually a heads up trouble is lurking ... by that, I mean a nasty spirit not of the Lord ... to keep your spiritual eyes and ears open ... am quite aware of spirits around me for the most part ... but then there are those times when one is so weary or lets down their guard and one misses them ... guess it's to say it's not a black and white issue ... and definitely one doesn't always see 'physical' spirits when seeing spiritually ... mostly not ...

just thought to add this ... it's like when you are at a grocery store and you see a person down the aisle ... and your heart knows they are sad and just why ... that is an example of seeing spiritually and hearing their heart spiritually ...

anyway, it requires effort on our part ... effort to understand the spirits ...

just thought to give you an example from my life ... about six or so years ago my sister and I and our spouses went to a birthday party ... it was the craziest thing I've ever seen ... first we saw an acquaintance who my sister and I both have issues with because he is a 'pot-stirrer' ... we watched the spirit of confusion take him over and for hours he went from person to person literally babbling ... others thought he was drunk ... we knew it was the spirit of confusion ... we saw it from beginning to end ...

at the same party the Lord showed me how a person can be used to carry a spirit and have the spirit pass through them because they are a vessel with no spirit ... no spirit is present because there is no anything spiritual going on with them ... watched a spirit go right through one person into another ... then the person it went to, their eyes turned completely snow white and rolled back in their head ... the person could not physically get up and could not see ... was literally blind ... I sat with my hand on one knee and my sister with her hand on his other knee and prayed like heck ... after what seemed a lengthy time his eyes rolled back and he was okay, but we had to leave ... it was my husband that happened to ... I knew what happened exactly because the Lord showed me that morning to look for certain things in people and to see what I see ...

there were several other instances that day ... but this is enough to show you what I mean ... never once physically saw a spirit ... but darn sure knew they were there ... my husband was not been the same since ... until about 6 months ago when he had something happen to him at work at 7 in the morning when I was desperately praying for the Lord to help our marriage ... he later told me he was at work and it suddenly dawned on him that what was going on with us might be spiritual ... he said he thought maybe this was what I meant ... and that he didn't know how to do it right so he just said "I order you gone in God's name' ... immediately he got an intense bloody nose and then it was gone and he said he actually felt it leave ...

we have been so great ever since ... just like before the spirit entered him ... I had a good idea how he picked up the spirit ... sure enough ... we found out few days later that the brother of the person I thought carried the spirit to my husband got such a bad bloody nose at the same time my husband did, that for the brother they had to life flight him to another city and break his nose ... they worked to stop the bleeding for a week ... I understood the spirit went back to the house from which it came and found it empty and settled back in ... just the way scripture says it happens ... exactly!

know that's a lot to absorb and a lot 'about me' ... but felt to give you a picture of how it can work ... there were other instances that day, as well ... realized later it was very close to Passover ... and so it is ... seeing spiritually isn't necessarily about seeing physically ... kind of a contradiction in terms to begin with ...

I believe when spirits are actually seen physically it is more often spirits not of the Lord ... I believe they want you to see them as to intimidate ... but that part is just my speculation ...

I looked at the context of the quote in Matthew 7 about asking and receiving, and there is no mention at all about spiritual discernment or "seeing" anything in the spirit.

What I see is advice about practical issues of conduct and what we should watch out for.

So, asking for some kind of spiritual "eye" using the reference from Matthew 7 is twisting the Scripture around to make it say something different than what Jesus intended it to say.

What we have to watch out for when seeking some sort of spiritual "eye" is that we don't get trapped into New Age mysticism, thinking that we are being led of the Spirit.

The question is, what is a person's motive for having this special spiritual "eye" to see things beyond our natural senses?

Dr. Lester Sumrall says that if we want to know the will of God, read the Bible. If we want to know that we are being led of the Spirit, do the Bible.

When Jesus spoke about the coming of the Holy Spirit (John 14), He said that the Spirit would lead us into all truth and remind us of the things He taught the disciples. If you study what Jesus taught the disciples, there is nothing mentioned about having an inner spiritual "eye".

His instructions to the disciples, which were meant to be passed on to everyone else was to: "Heal the sick, cast out demons, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead," etc.

The gifts of the Spirit do not involve having a spiritual "eye" to see "deeper" things that ordinary people could not see. The nine gifts of the Spirit are there to use out in the community among unconverted people. If you read the book of Acts, that's what the Apostles did. St Patrick won the whole of Ireland in one generation from paganism, not because he had deeper spiritual insights, but that he believed the truth of the Bible and put it into practice, healing the sick and casting out demons. That's how the pagans knew that Jesus was more powerful than their gods and idols.

I am concerned that many Pentecostals and Charismatics, through their seeking after deeper spiritual insights and wanting to "see" in the spirit, are falling into divination and psychic stuff, thinking they are led of the Spirit. Possibly they may be being led of other spirits instead.

Faith is not delving into Christian "mysticism", it is believing the clear and plain words of the New Testament and acting on them. New Covenant people have the Holy Spirit living in them. They don't have to seek mystic experiences. People who are controlled by familiar spirits and religious spirits seek manifestations and mystical experiences.

Saints filled with the Holy Spirit proclaim the Gospel with healing of the sick, casting out of demons, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers, restoring the disabled, and restoring the sight of blind people. Those are things that Jesus did. You never saw Jesus go into some mystical state and start spouting other-worldly, New Age, gobbledygook that He "saw" with some sort of spiritual "eye".

We are not going to be judged for what we "see" in the "spirit", but we are going to be judged for the works that we do.

BeccaCheria, one aspect of this is - Acts 2:17 says that we'll have dreams and visions. Asks Yahweh what they mean because He has a purpose for them. OT example - Daniel 1:17 Daniel had an understanding of dreams and visions in his day. NT examples - Acts 9 Ananias and Apostle Paul were both given visions and it was the beginning of Paul's journey to write most of the NT. Acts 10 - Peter's in a trace (given by Yahweh not generated by Peter) and guided by The Holy Spirit (v 19 and 20) while Cornelius was given a vision seeing one of Yahweh's angels and they interacted. Cornelius summons Peter. Those Gentiles hear the gospel and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and the Peter realizes the Gentiles are to be included.

I'm not sure seeing in the spirit and dreams and visions are exactly the same thing ... one can have a dream or vision and still not see spiritually ... iow, have no clue about any of what it might even possibly mean ... as far as I understand, anyway ...

one cannot see spiritually if one doesn't even know the difference between a bad spirit and the Holy Spirit (i.e. seeing spiritually) ... and that must come with learning and knowing which is which and what God would or would not say to you ... and there is a purpose for it ...

as far as the gold dust and all that ... have to agree with Osacar here ... we should be about pointing people to Salavation ...

and letting the Lord lead us where He would ... I do know, Becca, that I prayed and prayed for the Lord to use me in these areas ... dreams, visions, and seeing spiritually ... it didn't just happen over night ... it came slowly over time ... I agree with 'ask and you shall receive' ... I think the mistake there is when we are asking for our own purposes ...

if any of it (gold dust, etc.) is true, it wouldn't likely be much ... and look at the confusion it's caused ... confusion, again, is not of the Lord ... and 'they' will come like angels of light ... performing these wonders ...

simply ... this is all taking the eyes of Jesus and putting them on dangerous ground ...

again, what Oscarr said ... true, we won't be judged on what we see spiritually ...

however, it is a spiritual war ... not a flesh war ...

one can't cast out demons (spirits not of the Lord) if one can't even recognize they are present ...

again, it comes down to how do you know which is which ... you must study and understand the fruits of the Spirit ... love, joy, etc. and the spirits that are not of the Lord ... anger, jealousy, sloth, etc. ... we're taught the fruits of the Holy Spirit ... we should know the fruits of Satan and his ...

for instance depression steals joy ... anxiety steals peace ... etc. ... this I know absolutely ... dealt with both for years until the Lord showed me this ...

scripture tells us to be wiser than the serpent (a very real spirit) ... knowledge and understanding is the key ... and that comes from the Lord ...

seeing manisfestations like gold and things ... quite different than seeing spiritually ... those would fall under 'signs and wonders' ...

Becca, all in all I'd like to say ... continue seeking the Lord on this ... and don't take my word or anyone else's ... reach the place hand in hand with the Lord that you know that you know what you know ... it really is that simple ... all the rest of this is just all the rest of this ...

we are to look at the fruit produced in a person to see which tree it falls from ... sometimes very difficult to discern ... unless you understand what scripture tells you about both the Holy Spirit and the spirits not of the Lord ... and what the Lord would and would not speak to you through the mouth of another person ...

I, also, believe many walk around today in utter confusion with spirits flying every direction because they don't pick up a Bible to understand what is going on with them instead of running to the doctor for another 'fix' ... there are very real needs for a doctor ... but many would be better off understanding what's going on spiritually instead of masking it ... because it is a spiritual war we fight ...

getting redundant here ... enough said ...

I have a friend who can see into the spirit realm frequently, and my adult son, also, can do this. As far as I know, my son was born with the ability, and my friend developed it over many years of prayer.

this interests me a great deal ... had a drs. appt this morning and kept thinking about this conversation on the drive, through, and so on ...

realized I missed some other aspects ... just like what you said here, stormy ... I have a daughter who physically sees spirits ... I'm interested to know if your friend or son see things other than souls? ... like trees or whathaveyou? ... my daughter only sees souls ... has since she was very little ... also a sister who has souls visit her when passing in particular ... I know we're not allowed to contact them ... but not aware they can't contact us ...

have a teacher who is a pastor ... he says , as a pastor, he knows many pastors have sat with those who are passing on and very often the person will mention the name of a loved one and address them as they pass ... so we have that aspect, as well ... interesting subject ...

maybe two different conversations here trying to be one ... or even three ...

dreams and visions
seeing 'ghostlike' spirits
seeing spiritually ... ie.

so in reevaluating things here I realized, as well, that it doesn't change anything for me ...

still needs to be between the person and the Lord ... He is the One who can give you the answer meant for each person ... and in all three cases one needs to see spiritually ... and all three have their own purpose ... all to His glory ... the understanding and knowledge still comes from the Lord ... and as a gift it still comes from the Holy Spirit ...

want to say again, be wary of the one who causes desolation of the soul ... in all this it is crucial to keep your focus on Jesus ... NO where else ...

as to manisfestations ... they should be evaluated on the pattern set before us of miracles and wonders ... being caused by the Lord ... or not

it's always His Way ... or the other way ... the narrow Way ... or the broad way ...

and the Truth is in the Word ... not mans' mouth ...

there is also very real danger to soul in taking on these things ignorant of the Word on it ... one can open doors not prepared to handle at all ...

thanks for that post, stormy ... cool ... does your son use this gift in any form? ... or does it serve a purpose that you're aware of ... my daughter used to work three different assisted living places ... one she worked at night many people had died over the years ... they had a no door locked policy ... it bothered her during the night shift a great deal because she saw spirits walking the halls nightly ... was worried someone would come in and get lost in the view ... she couldn't take it anymore and now works a different kind of work for a while ...

Neal is young and caught up in his engagement with his fiancee. But he sees both human souls, and demonic and angelic spirits. He can also see when an evil spirit is attached to a physical object.

I have seen demons several times. We were praying for a friend, who kept feeling there was something "not right" about her home after a family member moved out. This family member was into dragons and "natural spirits." When I was praying, I saw and described her attic perfectly, and told her which corner the spirit was hiding in. I described it, and she said her daughter had a "spirit adviser" who looked like that and had drawn it several times.

When I got home, I told Neal, and he told me "Tell her that if she'll look directly under the spot in the attic, whichever room that is, she will find a picture or statue of a dragon. It was used to summon the demon, and until she destroyed that, it would keep coming back, no matter how much she anointed her home. I told my friend, and she found a painting of a dragon behind a cabinet, right under that spot in the attic where I saw the demon.

Spooky stuff.

Oscarr, I'm NOT talking about practicing mysticism nor do I believe in or condone any New Age "gobbledygook." as you say. I am talking about God opening up my spiritual eyes and ears like when the prophet Elisha prayed to God that his servant's eyes be opened. "O Lord, open his eyes so he may see." Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha." 2 Kings 6:17
I do not see anything wrong with asking for God this. As God's people it is part of our inheritance. Did not the Apostle Paul pray this for the church at Ephesus:
"Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord
Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give
thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding
being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope
of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His
inheritance in the saints,
and what is the exceeding greatness
of His power toward us who believe, according to the
working of His mighty power."- Ephesians 1:15-19.
In Matthew 7:7-8 as I stated before it says "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." So then why can that not mean asking God for spiritual things as well? No where in those verses did it not say that I cannot ask for those things. It says "ASK and it shall be given" I seek to glorify God in ALL that I do, and ALL that I have, nothing else. I want ALL that the Lord has to offer me!

I make remarks like that to get you out of your comfort zone and make you look more deeply into what you are doing and what you are looking for. I am not accusing you of anything, and I have not received any kind of "discernment" about you in these things.

It is just that after 45 years of Christian life in the Spirit, I have learned that everything that the Holy Spirit does is totally consistent with the teaching of Jesus. Therefore I take the attitude that if Jesus didn't do it or teach it, neither will I, nor will I support it.

The teaching of Jesus was very practical. He said that He was sending the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, and to remind us of His teachings. His view of faith was, and still is, believing in God and in Him. His nature and character is revealed in the Gospels, and any experience or manifestation that was not experienced by Jesus or taught by Him is not of the Holy Spirit. This is because the Holy Spirit is here to reveal Jesus to us, and therefore will not manifest anything that is not consistent with the nature and Character of Jesus.

In my experience, a lot of what Pentecostals and Charismatics do and teach these days is inconsistent with what Jesus taught and did.

So, my view is that we should test everything we do and are seeking for, with what Jesus did and taught in the Gospels.

So, when Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they would receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, he was praying that they would have a deeper understanding of the plans and purposes of God for the world and His Church, not that individuals have some type of "spiritual sight" or discernment. The only spiritual attribute that God recognises and supports is faith, and faith comes by hearing the Word of God' and the Word of God that would come to a believer is totally consistent with what Jesus did and taught in the Gospels.

Try and find anywhere in the Gospels that Jesus taught that people should have some type of extra special spiritual discernment other than a deeper understanding of His Word, and then let me know.

Oscarr, I'm NOT talking about practicing mysticism nor do I believe in or condone any New Age "gobbledygook." as you say. I am talking about God opening up my spiritual eyes and ears like when the prophet Elisha prayed to God that his servant's eyes be opened. "O Lord, open his eyes so he may see." I do not see anything wrong with asking for God this. As God's people it is part of our inheritance. Did not the Apostle Paul pray this for the church at Ephesus:
"Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord
Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give
thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding
being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope
of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His
inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness
of His power toward us who believe, according to the
working of His mighty power."- Ephesians 1:15-19.
I know, I understood your posts.

For those that see flashes of light and have dreams and visions, these can be components of seeing in the Spirit. Scriptures were included earlier.

Jesus never reported seeing flashes of light, so it is suspect to me.

The dreams that people experienced in the Gospels and Acts included practical instructions to avoid danger or to strengthen a person's faith.

Visions and dreams that do not support the teachings and practice of Jesus in the Gospels have to be suspect.

1) Daniel 10 "Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude."

Or from your perspective should I have lightning instead of flashes of light.

posted: Visions and dreams that do not support the teachings and practice of Jesus in the Gospels have to be suspect.

NT examples - Acts 9 Ananias and Apostle Paul were both given visions and it was the beginning of Paul's journey to write most of the NT. Yes, these had purposes and what believers see today has a purpose. Plus Scripture says that Peter was guided by The Holy Spirit.

To use your Daniel and Matthew references to support that flashes of light is a work of the Holy Spirit is an extreme twist of the Scripture.

Daniel and Matthew are describing the appearance of an angel. Matthew is probably thinking of Daniel's description when he described angel who appeared to Mary Magdalene. There is absolutely no connection between this and the way the Holy Spirit works with believers.

Just remember that the devil can use Scripture to deceive people into believing that demonic manifestations come from God, but he quotes Scripture out of context.

You will find that Peter's vision is quite consistent with the teaching of Jesus. Jesus told him in the vision that he needed to change his attitude toward gentiles and be prepared to go to their homes to share the Gospel. This was in preparation for Cornelius' request. If Peter did not have that vision, He would not have gone to the Centurion's house, and they would not have been saved or baptised in the Spirit.

To use Peter's vision as credentials for believers having trances and mystical experiences without any defined Gospel purpose involving getting people saved and baptised in the Holy Spirit, is twisting Scripture out of its proper context.

Ananias and Paul did have visions, but you need to read the context to see the purose of their visions. Ananias would have been frightened of Paul because all he knew of him was that he was in Damascus to throw Christians into prison. He needed a vision from God to give him the confidence to go to where Paul was and to minister to him.

Paul's vision was the next step in his direction after receiving a very dramatic conversion which would have left him thoroughly confused. These visions had a definite purpose. To use these to support believers having mystical experiences is a very deceitful use of Scripture. It is a flagrant misuse of Scripture to support the self gratification behaviour of people who might still need to be born again and baptised in the Spirit. I don't think these people know what spirit they are of.

If they can misuse the Word of God to support their shonky behaviour, then I find it very difficult to believe that they are truly born again and filled with the Spirit. They might be religious, but it could very well be counterfeit.

Yes, these had purposes and what believers see today has a purpose. Plus Scripture says that Peter was guided by The Holy Spirit.

Seers are mentioned over 20 times in Scripture and they exist today. They SEE things in the supernatural and what they are seeing and experiencing is from Yahweh. We do have to guard ourselves (I"M saying it again). But we do not have to be so afraid of the counterfeit that we disregard The Real Thing - which is the purpose of this thread to learn about seeing in the Spirit.

BeccaCheria, besides flashes of light or dreams or visions, another thing that might happen to you is seeing glory clouds or that's the term I hear most often. Sometimes before and during congregational meetings is when it happens that I've heard of but know that Yahweh can whatever He wants. I know singing to Yahweh is important but it's when we're able to get our minds off ourselves and others and deliberately focus on Him. I had typed this before I located the Scripture - You can be encouraged that everyone saw the cloud = Exo 33:10 "And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door."

My experience is as such. I see some Christians content with normal almost secular activity with a sprinkle of religious living here and there. Others seek as much of the Word and His blessings as they can get and never tire trying to achieve more! Others look at them as if they are crazy or not applying the scriptures correctly. I say they are applying the scriptures correctly and more abundantly! Most of us are more in to this world then the Spiritual things we should be in. Be thankful you are not of this world! Walk, pray, speak and see in the Spirit! let the others cling to this world :)

seeing spiritually ... have always been taught rightly dividing the scriptures is to seperate the flesh teaching from the spiritual ...

here are some examples ...

Matthew 8:22
some tests of discipleship

But Jesus said unto him, Follow me and let
the dead bury their dead.

we know physically the dead cannot bury their dead ...
but the spiritually dead can ...

1 Timothy 5:6
instructions concerning widows

But she that liveth in the pleasure is dead
while she liveth.

obviously one can't be physcially dead and alive at the same moment ...
but one can be physcially alive and spiritually dead at the same moment ...

Isaiah 54:7
the Lord's everlasting love for Israel

For a small moment have I forsaken thee;
but with great mercies will I gather thee.

clearly a moment here is a time refernce out of eternity ...
but not literally a moment ...

to see scriptures spiritually one must have their eyes and ears opened by the Lord, Himself.

it was said no where in the Bible are we given a spiritual 'eye' ... I disagree ... yes we are ... and it is given by the Lord

1 Corinthians 2:14
wisdom is God's gift

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because the are spiritually discerned.

unless the Lord opens your eyes ... i.e. given a spiritual 'eye' one can't see spiritually ...

it would seem to see spiritually means to discern and see what others don't in the scriptures ...

and it would seem dreams/visions/ and all the rest would follow having this discernment ... it would not seem you could 'see spiritually' any other way than starting with scriptures ...

there is no evidence of spiritually seeing physical images in these verses ... but I wasn't looking for those kind of verses ...

really feel all the other things are overshadowing what it means to see spiritually the things the Lord tells us ... and THEN we can apply them to those other areas ...

but it begins with having our eyes and ears opened ...
