Thanks for the links Michie :)

How is everyone faring this Lent so far? I have found my resolution to stop complaining quite hard so far. Somehow there seemed to be lots of things to complain about!^_^

My parish has some workbooks for Discussion Groups this Lent, I put my name down to attend and now it looks like I'm hosting and leading a group for some women in the parish! :D It's been a while since I've done this sort of thing. I'm really looking forward to getting to know the other ladies on a deeper level. We've had nine months in our parish and people are very friendly, it will be good to go a bit deeper though.

I messed up the first day. I put chicken broth in the fish chowder.

I'm still in the fuzzy mode. No real solid plan. :o

Oops! I nearly served meat as our main evening meal... I had to do a last minute swticharoo. My DH is working away at the moment and he had forgotten all about Lent until I called him on Ash Wednesday.^_^

It was too late for me. I had to follow through. I figure I'll do another day of fasting to make up for it.

A Mile Wide and a Foot Deep...
Lent is a time for serious thinking. That does not mean morose thinking. Quite the opposite. Melancholia and even despair issue from living life superficially without engaging the profound mysteries that God sets before us. Serious thinking means that we take people seriously, and that means we take God seriously because He takes us seriously.

Why is Lent Forty Days?
In the English language, the special season before Easter is called “Lent.” The word comes from the “lengthening” of daylight hours as we progress from the darkness of winter to the new light of spring. But other languages, such as…

Wholly Fire and Light: Clean Week, Lent and Living the Transfiguration

small2_2012024837.jpg
The Christian vocation is "participation in the Divine Nature." (2 Peter 1:4). We are transfigured in Christ as we cooperate with God's grace. This transfiguration will be complete when our entire person is fully redeemed and transformed. The effects of the transfiguration involve the entire created order as well. It will finally be reconstituted in Jesus Christ and handed back to the Father. The followers of Jesus, the Transfigured One, now walk in His Way and are being transformed into His likeness, to shine as lights in a world steeped in darkness.

Beer-Battered Fish Fry

Holy Cuisine

from the “Fish for Lent Recipe Series”
There’s nothing that speaks more of Lent than an old-fashioned fish fry. I recall many Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy family activities that involve ingesting a great deal of delicious fried…
