If it's not too personal, what was the chrismation name you chose? I'm thinking a lot about it. My middle name is Joseph and I love the husband of Mary a great deal. But I also am drawn to Maximos the Confessor. I'm blown away at how his tongue was cut out, his hand cut off by the powers that be to silence his orthodoxy in moments of heresy ruling the day. But I also like so many other saints.

How did you choose yours? :)

Knee V

It's phonetic.

My birth name is the name of a saint, so I kept that as my name when I was chrismated - Joel. I felt that going by another name when I had the option to continue to use my birth name would be dishonoring to my parents, and I felt that it would be dishonoring to the Holy Prophet Joel.

Are you getting close to chrismation gurney?

Mine is Anna, I was raised Catholic and that is what I was baptized. My parents prayed to St. Anna for a daughter after having 6 boys, so for me to change it would have upset my family and would have been disrespectful to St. Anna since my parents' prayers had been answered. It seemed like a good idea stay with her and a very bad idea to test if the Lord would be understanding about my telling his grandmother that I no longer wanted her as my Patron Saint.

Your question gives me great joy on an otherwise sad weekend.

I first began to question my Evangelical presuppositions after reading I Clement. He was also a pope of Rome (my wife is RC), and a well loved saint in the ROC.

My Chrismation saint is Clement of Rome.

Mine is Joseph, which you know lol. At the time of my Chrismation I had thought that my first name wasn't a Saint, and neither is my middle name. Joseph had been my Confirmation name as a Roman Catholic (well, one of them), so it stuck around for Chrismation. I chose him because I'd like to have his dedication and instant-response time to God's Will, and because I always wanted to be as good a husband and father as he.

My fiancee went from Stacia to Anastasia. Not a big leap, neither in meaning or spelling really. Her (Protestant) parents had named her for the Resurrection anyway, so she just uses the full name for Sacraments.

How is "Stacia" a Resurrection name?...

It doesn't have to be. And I didn't say that I was definitely going with that name. My mom gave me Joseph as a middle name. And it was in the Catholic Church. I don't have to be chrismated to pray to a saint. I never implied that I had to be???

Just asking people about their names, no big woop

If you already have a Christian name, isn't it usually that? You have already been dedicated to St. Joseph. Why do you need to be chrismated Maximos, over and above getting an icon of him and praying to him?

Touchy, touchy. It is just my impression that if you already have a Christian name, you are typically Chrismated with that name.

I've never been more tempted. Seriously....

The Orthodox priest in the parish I'm thinking of joining is quite kind and cool about the process. He has said that, if my wife and I choose to go for it, he'll make it just a couple of months tops as a process of catechesis. He knows how much I've read, studied, prayed, and analyzed the heck out of Orthodoxy and Catholicism. And as a lifelong Catholic, he knows that I'm not that far off from Orthodoxy...not like a Pentecostal coming in with problems with Mary and sacramental theology, etc. He's pretty easy-going and nice about it. We're really close to making a decision. I'm at a point, I think, where going back to the Catholic Church would give me the biggest sigh and let-down feeling in history. Our biggest frustration is the distance. The nearest EO parish (the one we're visiting) is about 50 minutes north of here, not at all convenient or part of our community really.

As a Catholic, I'd go down for confession on the fly, run down for daily Mass (even on work days!), and having my house of worship close was great. Orthodoxy is quite a jaunt for us. That seriously bums us. It's not easy with 3 little ones either. But we're praying about it.

Prayers appreciated!

If you came into our home and saw all my icons, you'd have thought I was already Orthodox! ^_^:p

My birthday is February 18th. My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday. No suprise at all, "ICONS!" She said, "let's buy 'em!"

My Christmation name is Julia. I was baptized in the Anglican Church with a whole list of other names, but when my family became Orthodox ( and we were among the first South Africans to convert) we all chose new names. But all my names have ended up on my certificate!

Touchy? Perhaps you're inferring a tone that's not there? Not touchy at all.

Mine is Joseph also, because I feel that he just doesn't get enough credit, and also because I figure who else knew both our Lord and our Lady better than he did? :)

Growing up, I always knew the meaning of my name (Who is like God?) and liked that I shared a name with the Archangel Michael (my parish is also named for the Archangel Michael). My priest agreed that I should keep it. My husband's parents were big on biblical names for their children (and the Holy Saturday when we were chrismated just happened to be my husband's name day).
