i have found that smoking marijuana has helped me with my anxiety problems, but being told that it is a sin has made me have these bad highs about it being a sin and that it makes the devil closer to you, but in the bible somewhere it says that God has given us a herb in which we can use? i see no harm in smoking marijuana, it makes me happy, but now i can't smoke and be happy, the thought of it being a sin makes me have a depressed high, can someone clear this up is it a sin is it not? why would it be grown if it is a sin? but i know your suppose to stay at a sober state of mind, but then why did God allow the use of wine during Christ' time? i have been told it is a sin and it is not a sin, why would it be a sin if its grown on earth which God created everything on earth.
I think that there is a better way.
I believe that God's spirit can deliver you from anxiety and many other
thoughts such as fear, depression, hatred, self loathing and many other
problems that stem from improper thinking or concepts.

The principal from the Bible deals with alcohol based drink but I believe
this same principal extends to all substances that alter perception
to the point of intoxication.

Ephesians 5

15 Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately,
not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),
16 Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish,
but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery;
but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.
19 Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord,
20 At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

debauchery:
a : extreme indulgence in sensuality

Pray and ask God to take away your dependency on pot and to replace it
with dependency on Him through His Holy Spirit.

I was extremely addicted to pot and could not stop smoking it.
It was so bad that I had memory loss, paranoia and I could not function
or be "normal" without pot.

I prayed one night and asked God to take away my desire for pot and He did.

I woke up the next morning and had no urge at all to smoke.

I never went back to that trap that sapped me of my strength and
creativity and kept me in a prepetual state of a "buzz" to keep
me feeling "normal. Everything was filtered through that "buzz"
and I felt like I walked around with a film between me and reality.

There is God's way so if you are willing, God is willing.

As far as guilt or sin, God has His arms opened wide to you and
loves you and wants the best for you so if you run to God,
He will be more than glad to hold you in His arms and help you
come to a better life in Him.

May God bless you....

There's a few things grown on earth that us humans use. Ever heard of opium? it grows in the middle east. that's where heroin comes from.

Just because it's there, doesn't mean we should use or abuse it. There are many legal, non-medicinal and legal, RX ways of dealing with anxiety. You already feel guilty about it. You've answered your own question.

My personal take? It depends on what it does to you, and where you live.

On it's own? Probably not a sin. Sorta like drinking alcohol isn't a sin. However, getting drunk can lead to a sin (The bible warns against intoxication, not because intoxication is a sin, but because you lose your clarity of mind and can fall into sin so much easier). I've never been high on marijuana, but I think the same principal applies.

the other consideration is that we are called to obey the law of the land (Save where it contradicts with God's law), and depending where you live, it may be illegal so smoke marijuana.

I'll refer you to this verse:

1 Corinthians 10:23
"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial.
"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.
1 Corinthians 10:23

Depending on where you live marijuana is illegal, there are some states that permit
it to be used medically to treat illnesses-- the person(s) using it do have to have a medical statement proving they are sick etc...

Were you prescribed marijuana by your doctor? Or are you using it without medical/legal consent?

My view is that the bible tells us we are to obey earthly authorities. So if it is against the law then it is wrong to use. That simple for me. Pal Handy made some good points and is worth reading his post again.

but i know your suppose to stay at a sober state of mind, but then why did God allow the use of wine during Christ' time? i have been told it is a sin and it is not a sin, why would it be a sin if its grown on earth which God created everything on earth.
nothing wrong with drinking but getting drunk is wrong. So use of wine is fine but as they say in the classics in moderation.
There are plants which can be used for good purposes or bad purposes. They can be used to make medicine or they can be used to make illegal drugs. So there is nothing wrong with the plant itself but rather how it is used. marijuana can actually be used in clothing which is very comfortable. (It isn't only made of marijuana)

I used to be a drug addict, I can tell you that on at least four separate occasions I had demonic experiences while on weed (by itself). One in particular I remember: I got high one day and decided to read the bible, every time I started reading there would be a loud ringing in both ears, the ringing would not stop until I stopped reading and closed the book...this particular event happened three times.

There is something about this drug, it has a strong demonic atmosphere and I believe that it can cause you to enter into a different realm (in the spiritual), this can leave you vulnerable to deception and demonic influence.

I have noticed that most people deep into UFO experiences (yet still claim to be Christian) and other supernatural (unchristian) phenomena...they are usually marijuana users. Do not be deceived, as a Christian you are commanded to abstain from worldly drugs, but be filled with the Spirit of Christ.

Marijuana use is no good no matter if it is legal where you live or not.Romans 12:2.
It also intoxicates which is no good as you should have a clear mind not a mind under the influence of drugs. It also shows(as does cigarettes in my opinion)that you cannot get by without it,more so when you are stressed out,so God does not quite do it for you, when we should rely on God and God alone, especially in times of stress etc.
As it says in the 10 commandments,"you should have no gods before God".
Also look at all the trouble marijuana causes, the fact that it is often a gateway drug as far as im concerned there should be no room for that in anyones life.
IF you TRULY BELIEVE in God you should give it up,and if it is a struggle remember that HE IS REAL and therefore it is defenitly not for nothing.
Hey bud(no pun)check out 2nd Corinthians 12:9-10 and REMEMBER it is real.

I think it isn't a sin depending on where you live. I think many times the church doesn't rely on the bible instead they look towards cultural norms and tie that into scriptures that do not represent what the actual message is.

People have been using since 2737 B.C. and yet and still I see no where that weed is directly related to in the bible. What I do see is scriptures that say homosexuality is a sin(hear a lot of Christians argue that) Remarriage for reasons other then adultery a sin(yet how many marriages does the church do for those that are divorced).

However when it comes to liquor and weed it seems to be this thing where it should not be done, it is wrong and it is a sin. That is man made religion not words from God. The bible does say that one should not be intoxicated and alter one's mind. I have smoked weed before and when it becomes legal I will do it again.

Then let's look at how many people die do weed each year. The fact is more people die from drinking to much water then smoking to much weed. More people die taking over the counter medicines then smoking to much weed.

Again my belief is that weed is not a sin, it is culturally frowned upon that is why it has such a negative view in the church.

There wer no such things as illegal drugs in the Us til after the Civil War.

the sin is not in the doing of the thing, but in letting it beome an obession that interferes with one's life. It is no more a sin than going to an all you can eat buffett.

Smoking an hallucinogenic drug is a bit different than eating a piece of fried chicken.

Yea it sure can,as well as hear things, also can make you paranoid,un-motivated,a thief, isolated, mood swings, etc etc.
Also Avniel it is clear that God does not want his people intoxicated,Proverbs 20:1,21:17.
There are more examples somewhere yet even if our Lord only says it once, once is enough.Just look at all the crime that comes from marijuana etc,the fact that it is a gateway drug etc it should be plain to see that God is against it.
It doesn't matter if it is legal in some places or if people have been smoking it for a long time, check out Romans 12:2,we are meant to stand out and not twist the word of God.God knew exactly how the Bible would be viewed and he knew how we would interpret it in this age,it is not complicated or hard to follow it is all very basic stuff(why would God make his laws/rules hard or complicated to follow?)so we would stuff up? obviously He wouldn't do that and hasn't.Its just some people don't want to sacrifice what they WANT to do and so compromise, while the majority know what the black and white truth says/means.
Its all very basic stuff.God loves us and is not out to confuse.Romans 8:5

So does the Holy Spirit! Which one are you going to choose? You can't serve two masters.

I don't even smoke weed its is illegal in the state and against federal laws. I did smoke weed from 11-12 to about 18 till someone told me that the bible says to obey the laws of the land then I stopped. And you know what I didn't wake up in the middle of the night sweating, shaking feeling like I'm going to die.

Now I serve two masters because I don't believe smoking weed is a sin? RRRRRIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHTTTTTT!? o_0

You saw my position on weed and you thought automatically this guy smokes weed. You guessed wrong now while I can't say I can find a scripture that says directly you shouldn't smoke weed I can find several on being judgmental. And that is what you did you judged my posts as a weed smoker and you were wrong.....Like the guy said God is the author of confusion and you seemed to be confused.

For not smoking weed, you talk about it a lot. You strike me as one of the people who quit a drug, but are never really free from it. Otherwise known as a dry alcoholic. I'm not being judgmental. I'm a former drug user myself. Just my observations.

I don't know how true that is. I smoke weed and have smoked weed since like I said I was about 12 years of age. I have never saw anything, heard anything nor felt paranoid or un-motivated. Not once in my entire life have I stolen anything from anybody and I have always got good grades my entire life. I failed one class in my entire life and that was in college. I know a lot of people that do smoke or have smoked and most of them are on their ways to become attorneys and or are hard workers. So I just can't see that when you look at the number of professionals that smoke it really is crazy. The fact is you won't get a job if you smoke weed at mcdonald's but you can get a job at a law firm or be an MD and have smoked before you got the jobs.

Also Avniel it is clear that God does not want his people intoxicated,Proverbs 20:1,21:17.

There are people that smoke weed and it has no affect on them. It's like smoking a cig but then there are people that smoke a blunt and they feel paranoid strange and they feel like their heart is beating fast. I have seen both occasions. I have a friend that smoked weed a few times but it has no affect on him at all.

There are more examples somewhere yet even if our Lord only says it once, once is enough.Just look at all the crime that comes from marijuana etc,the fact that it is a gateway drug etc it should be plain to see that God is against it.

Could you find me the scripture that states you should not smoke marijuana or the hebrew term for it and God saying that it is a sin. I do believe marijuana was around then and the hebrews had knowledge of it. So could you find that scripture for me?

It doesn't matter if it is legal in some places or if people have been smoking it for a long time, check out Romans 12:2,we are meant to stand out and not twist the word of God.God knew exactly how the Bible would be viewed and he knew how we would interpret it in this age,it is not complicated or hard to follow it is all very basic stuff(why would God make his laws/rules hard or complicated to follow?)so we would stuff up? obviously He wouldn't do that and hasn't.Its just some people don't want to sacrifice what they WANT to do and so compromise, while the majority know what the black and white truth says/means.

Exactly It is very specific and there is no specific scripture that states you should not smoke weed.

Are you a 100% sure that smoking weed is a sin?

First of all I am Jamaican raised in a Jamaican neighborhood in the Bronx my grandmother makes weed tea for her arthritis. I grew up around weed and then when I go to Jamaica it's a farm full of weed my great uncle grows. In fact my grandpa's had a head ache and he has a bottle of rum that he soaks a draw of weed in it and took a shot of the rum mixed with the weed and his head ache was gone.

I think culturally I have a different view on weed.

Do I fiend for a spliff no I don't. I haven't smoked in going on 7 years. Have I thought about smoking weed? No it's no big deal for me not to smoke weed.

The story of me stopping smoking my wife told me(she never smoked in her life but we share the same view on weed) in college she wouldn't date someone that broke the law and smoking weed was illegal and backed it by scripture. And I have never smoked again since then, she was right it is a sin to break the law.

I've been to Jamaica and I could have smoked, when I go to the bronx I can smoke.....But it's illegal......and I don't break the law it is a sin to do so.

I go so hard because

1) its part of my culture

2) It's just so annoying the way people put their own twists on the Bible. It has become more cultural then factual. I mean think about it the same people that think they can divorce someone because they fell out of love or were "emotionally neglected" even though Jesus says that if you do so don't not get married.............what do they do?...............they get remarried.......Then they say weed is a sin a statement which no one is 100% sure and if they are then that would be foolish because NOOOOOOOO where does the bible address that.

All of a sudden there is this new ideology that husbands and wives both have to submit to each other and love each other as Christ loved the church. But the scripture says wives submit to your husbands and husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church.

All of these traditions all these man made laws its starting to annoy me.

There are alot of things that scripture does not directly deal with. Yet christians seem to be sure of those beliefs. Why is it different with weed then in your view?

You say the bible does not deal directly with weed. Well I guess it depends on your definition of directly. Does the bible mention the word weed? Nope of course it doesn't. Does the bible tell us to be clear minded & sober and other similar things? Yes. Are you clear minded when smoking weed? Nope. That is easily evidenced by the reasons people give for smoking it in the first place. I also speak from personal experience. So the bible directly speaks about being clear minded. So is it possible that it is directly speaking about using weed while speaking about other things as well?

All of a sudden there is this new ideology that husbands and wives both have to submit to each other and love each other as Christ loved the church. But the scripture says wives submit to your husbands and husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church.
Perhaps then you could explain why the scripture tells wives and husbands to submit to each other in love if as you claim the bible does not say that.

Out of curiosity why does your friend smoke weed if it has no affect? If it was addictive then one could understand but you said no effect which means it is not addictive as that would be affecting your friend.

but in the bible somewhere it says that God has given us a herb in which we can use? i see no harm in smoking marijuana,,why would it be a sin if its grown on earth which God created everything on earth.
God made the mountains, so we are to jump off ?
God made the tigers, rattle snakes, sharks, do we have these as pets ?
God made the rocks, are we suppose to eat or smoke them ?
Not everything God created is meant to be eaten or smoked. Some things on earth produce deadly fumes when burned or poision to the body when eaten.
