Is astral projection a sin?

I do this thing called astral projection, which is where I meditate and try to achieve an altered state of conciousness that gives the feeling of being out of one's body. Literally, it feels that there is a separation of me and my body. Is this a sin.

I wouldn't do it as this is the kind of thing that gets people started in the occult. I've read some testimonies that involved this kind of thing and it was a start for falling away from God. It's best to avoid this kind of thing. An alternative that I'd give instead would be to spend your time actively seeking after God, in prayer with Him. I think you'll be amazed at what God does in your life when you are actively seeking His will in your life!

I don't think so...in regards to tcwoods91 comment, I believe that while yes, it is the kind of thing that could get people started in the occult, I think that it is also up to the person(you) to make sure that you don't take it too far, you know what I mean? As long as you keep God first, I can't see how astral projection could be a sin.

Personally I would call astral projection, lucid dreaming, etc to be kind of 'fringe' things. In and of themselves I wouldnt really say anything is wrong about doing them, however... From there I can tell you exactly how easy it is to become curious about, and then involved in more occult-y things...

Just be aware that its easy to be curious and then more about the occult/paganism/etc.

Jesus never taught about facebook, or internet forums, or Microsoft Windows. Why use them?

Okay maybe that was a terrible example. Basically, is there anything wrong with astral projection at its core principle? If so, please explain.

Personally, I think its kind of silly. That's it.

If we die if something goes wrong in astral projection and we believe and accept Christ, won't we just end up in heaven anyways?

Besides, there's really no indicator that someone is actually able to leave their body through with their soul....Actually I take that back. You ever heard of the saying 'someone is out of their mind?' That's astral projection, because it requires you to be out of your mind.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't buy into it, but if they can do it more power to them.

Why do you do this? What is your goal? I think the answers to those questions will help you decide whether it's a sinful habit or not.

If you are doing it to connect with the dead, it is sinful:

1- Where are you astral projecting yourself?

and B - As a rule of thumb, it's to my knowledge an almost entirely pagan, eastern mystic practice with no biblical backing.

This is what is classed in with 'spiritualism' or let's put it biblically - witchcraft. Scripture is full of passages warning the people to keep away from witchcraft, delving in the spiritual realm, and divinations! Do I think you're making up your experience? Absolutely not; I believe in the spiritual realm very much ....... but you never hear God working in that way. It's a dangerous art to play with.

I have felt at times while praying that this is happening....not on purpose but just as i silent my mind and concentrate on being in His presence and then for the people i pray for...i swear i see them but not on a physical state...mentally...them being attacked by huge dark clouds...and it seems like my prayers for them, stirs these dark things...but i dont want to sound like a freak or something...but i dont do it often as i feel like the bad things noticed me and then come for me....seriously though, doing it intentionally without God opens up a whole other area with which we know nothing about...better to leave it alone or just spend time praying and being in His presence...

Do it, who cares. 'Astral projection' is nothing more than an incredibly relaxed state of mind akin to specific stages of sleep. As is most meditation or 'enlightenment'. The human brain is fascinating and I say we make use of it. Only one person in this thread has made the relevant point; that is, all that matters is why you are doing it.

I fully agree with wanderbloom and danyc- You're intentions and motivations behind doing this are key to whether or not you can label it sinful. I would encourage you looking to the Word for answers about what is considered witchcraft/occult behavior, but overall, meditation is not a sinful act as far as I understand.

I don't feel that astral projection is a sin. It is basically doing something that allows you to explore even more of God's creation- beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual. The experience of love there is even more profound. It can bring you closer to Him, as long as He is guiding you.
