I heard from a pastor once that if you get your nose corrected you criticize God because God made you this way. This argument makes no sense to me at all it's totally silly imo. This is like saying if siamese twins want to get separated they critize God or if a child without legs wants to get prosthetics then this critizes God.
Or what if a woman is totally depressed and feels inferior because she has no breasts at all then why should she be forced to live with this and continually feel miserable?
Also believing that if somebody has a crooked nose means that God wants it that way doesn't make sense either because if you believe that then you also have to believe if a deformed child is born then God wanted it that way. This is to blame God for sickness and everything which came through the fall of man!

our imperfections are the result of the cruse of sin upon our lives. Because of sin there is sickness, disease, blemishes, pain and suffering and death. But if sin causes these things than what is the answer? Well we all the know that and it is Christ. If sin gives death than Christ gives life and if sin gives imperfections than Christ gives perfection. When Christ raptures the church we will be given incorruptible bodies and it is only then that our physical will no longer bear the marks of sin and imperfections.

With that said I don't see a problem with plastic surgery as our current sate isn't necessarily the way God wants us because of the effect sin has had on our lives but we shouldn't look to plastic surgery as an answer. Colossians 2 says "in Christ [we] have been brought to fullness. In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands." I think we can replace the word circumcision with whatever physical insecurity you have and so in Christ we are restored to what he desires although we may still bear the physical marks of sin we can claim the power of Christ on them instead and be identified as perfect in Christ even in our physical instead of relying on "human hands".

In a sense I think it is sinful. Being concerned with external appearance rather than inner virtue betrays a lack of faith. Which master do we serve? The world which judges by what it sees, or God who judges the invisible heart?

But it would be unfair to impose such a standard on anyone who hasn't come to the conclusion on their own. Especially children who suffer some kind of deformity.

I can understand people wanting to correct deformity caused by injury or disease, or getting a mole removed here and there, but most of the cosmetic work I've seen looks worse than what nature intended. Breast implants look hideous and need repeated surgery and expense to maintain, and face lifts and the like end up leaving the people looking like bizarre aliens.

Make up is sinful. How about wearing nice clothes? Nice hair? Of course have faith in God but physical things are real too. We arn't Platonists who think the only real things are the perfect idea in another spiritual realm. As long as we treat physical things as physical things and not our God then it isn't sin. :)

I agree that taking it to the extreme is sin if it is done for vainity.

First off, I think it is unreasonable to say the plastic surgery is inherently sinful. Like many things, it has good applications and bad.

Or what if a woman is totally depressed and feels inferior because she has no breasts at all then why should she be forced to live with this and continually feel miserable?

What I hear is that the woman in this example believes the lie that the world has told her that, if only she had a more desirable body, she would be happy. It is almost certain that she will not be any less miserable because of the plastic surgery she receives. So, if she is seeking surgery to feel better about herself, she is wasting her time and money. So, whether or not it is "a sin", her line of thinking is misguided and unwise.

The truth is that the world tells us all sorts of lies about what will make us happy: more money, more sex, a better appearance, more technology, more stuff, a bigger house, a nicer car, a different government, a nice vacation, and so on. Each of these things can have a fleeting impact on our happiness and comfort, but they give us nothing meaningful if that is what we are using them for.

Also believing that if somebody has a crooked nose means that God wants it that way doesn't make sense either because if you believe that then you also have to believe if a deformed child is born then God wanted it that way. This is to blame God for sickness and everything which came through the fall of man!

I agree with you on this. To blame defects (whether minor or severe) on God is misguided theology.

How silly, we change how we appear everyday to look more pleasing.

Haircuts, why not just let it grow naturally as God intended and never cut it.

Make up...most women everyday to improve their looks.

Bra's...why not let them hang naturally until they're at your knees....

on and on....

Plastic surgery is no different. I do agree to some it becomes a God and they pay dearly for it, but corrective or just some mild improvements are fine.

My wife got boobs 7 years ago, no problems and they look great. Actually reduced and lifted. She is rather small, but busty and getting older they became more of a bother after children started dropping. She feels and looks much better now.

I think helping a deformed child, i.e. prosthetic legs or separation is a lot different than plastic surgery to correct a crooked nose.

I don't really think it is different at all. The principle is the same.

The action is not sinful...but anything can be done for the wrong motives.

Make up is way different then plastic surgery. When we walk to the gates of Heaven and God doesnt recognize the person he created it is an insult.I can take off my make up,fake nails and fake hair and prove to God "I am here the one you created" but no1 can remove hair dye, tattoos, breast implants, fake noses and butts.

I don't think God will have any trouble recognizing any of us with or without plastic surgery.

How is make up sinful? I think modesty is what's culturally to wear. Or are you using saying you doing it for the right reasons and not for vanity reasons

I think the fact of it being a sin or not, would rest in ones heart.. Like why are they getting it.. There are lots of reasons that you should get plastic surgery.. Like burn victims or fixing a cleft palette. Theclist is long. But there is only two reasons that i can think of that are sinful. The first is for vain reasons.. The second is in submission to anothers desire..
