• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does God have a husband/wife in mind for each of us?

I am going through heartbreak at the moment and I am so appreciative of the advice and prayer I have been given on the thread that I created in the prayer request section. I am just wondering however, why some people have said that God has someone special in mind for me? Does the bible say that God has this in mind for each of us? Just a bit confused, can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

Not generally. Sometimes that is how it seems with some people, but mostly we select from amongst people we know. I reckon more people are single who waited for that 'special person that God showed them' than those who have been sensible, got out there amongst people, developed god relationships and found someone they were willing to share their lives with, and had no reasons to accept that God was not in their decision.

God might have someone very special planned for you for, but like the joke about winning the lottery, you have to go out and play if you ever plan to win.

It's tragic that there is so much false teaching on this important topic which now has resulted in heart-break for this girl.

It is the teaching of some ministers that God will select husbands or wives for us which causes some as you have read above to advise that people need to get out on the field to play.:help: I guess that makes sense if you're selling the A.I.D.S. vaccine! :o

Both Jesus and the Apostle Paul taught that Christians should never marry because of the conflict that would occur in trying to serve two masters,or if children are created, many masters. The slight difference in their teachings is that Paul made an exception for people who can not sexually control themselves. Here are his words:

1 Corinthians 7:8-9 (New King James Version)

8 But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am (single); 9 but if they cannot exercise SELF-CONTROL, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

Jesus acknowledged the problem but instead of offering marriage as a solution,He warned that loss of moral control can result in a loss of salvation.

Luke 20:34-36 (New King James Version)

34 Jesus answered and said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

So to answer your question, NO.:amen:

Working at a Christian college I heard a chapel speaker say "If you would but give God the pen, He will write for you a wonderful romance."

What a lie! How do I know? Because some of us have been given the gift of celibacy. Every pot does not have a lid. I wish CHristians would not keeep telling this lie because it brings nothing but heartache.

if God means you to find a mate, you will. no matter how many miles separate you. but you won't find someone if you never look. and "playing the field" means dating. dating doesn't mean sex. it means getting to know someone and find out if you want to spend your life with them
