Thousands Celebrate the First Landing
By Mark Martin

CBN News

April 30, 2007

CBNNews.com - Virginia Beach, VIRGINIA - People from around the country gathered on the shores of Virginia Beach this weekend.

They celebrated the 400th anniversary of the first landing of English settlers in America.

They also re-dedicated the nation to God.

I find news about God's involvement in America's history -- and destiny -- so inspirational!

There is an refreshing and positive news video about the commemoration at the link.

This is one of the messages I treasure from the last line in the news story:

God created the United States of America for a special reason. He used America to welcome Jews and to later create the nation of Israel. God has blessed the USA as we have blessed Jews and Israel.

May our nation always bless Israel and please our Lord.

In other news, Native Americans hold a day of mourning.
Actually Christianity is a great blessing to Americans... Indians too. They stopped killing and torturing one another and live in peace. Most importantly they have found peace with God in Christ and enjoy a higher standard of living.

There is a book - title?? - that tells of many indian native prophecies about men from afar coming with a book to tell them about God. Christ's Holy Spirit was preparing the way for the Gospel in America.

Like other matters spiritual, God had it planned perfectly and Satan failed to prevent it or prevert it. God's love broke through.

I think you're right. Genocide, plagues, dehumanization, etc aside. I'm sure the survivors were really greatful.

Gods perfect plan involved smallpox blankets and death marches? How nice.

Maybe because they had to set aside their rivalries out of the necessity to ally against the US and its military might?

It's been estimated that possibly as much as 95% of the pre-Columbian population of the Americas died of diseases brought over from the first Europeans. The Americas had thousands of cultures here long before any white men ever stepped foot on the land, and many of these cultures were quite advanced. Native American societies were completely decimated by the white man's coming - those who weren't killed by disease or famine were likely to be killed in wholesale slaughter of the Indians by the white men.

Now, I'm not trying to say that the Native Americans were all peaceful and perfect peoples - every society that has ever existed on this earth has had its fair share of reprehensible people and practices, and the Americas are no exception. But to claim that they were somehow worse off before Europeans came and should thank their lucky stars that we enlightened types came and showed them the error of their ways is to completely ignore actual history.

Is this like that "good slavery" thing you were talking about in pm to me? Is it now your belief that what happened to the indians was "good genocide" because it was christians wiping them out?

Like other matters spiritual, God had it planned perfectly and Satan failed to prevent it or prevert it. God's love broke through.
Again why do you worship a god who planned genocide?

Are native North Americans generally known to have been heavily involved in killing and torture at the time of colonisation?

As to the idea that killing, aside from the odd murder here and there, stopped in America as it become a Christian country... there was this thing called the civil war, you may wish to look into it. Many hurt, several even killed... Christian Americans on both sides

You don't even have to wait that long after christians got here. Despite what childhood thanksgiving propeganda may have led you to believe, pilgrims weren't exactly the best friends of the Native Americans. Then there was that little town near Boston in the 1690s. There were the french and Indian wars that happened 20 years before the revolution. Andrew Jackson, who only became president because he won the battle of new orleans, forced the Natives out of their lands and into barren BS land. The US military committed genocide against the Natives (Custer had it coming). Is that what the old time religion has done for this land?

Oh, and lets not forget the War of Independence, since you bring it up.

I only thought to mention the civil war previously because of my sincere doubt that Native Americans, in their entire history, killed as many other Americans as died in the Civil War.
