I was taught that certain material objects (such as pagan idols etc etc) can be cursed in the sense that they can attract evil spirits and have evil spiritual connotations attached to them. I completely believe this for a number of reasons, some of which are personal experiences. However, I'm having a hard time finding actual scriptures to back up that belief. I was wondering if anyone had some they could share? Thanks a bunch!

I'm not sure of things having evil spirits attached to them, but as a new christian, I saw the example in Acts 18:19 of those who had books that they burned up since they were ungodly, and that's kind of what I saw needed to be done in my life too.

The bible seems to call idols just created things with no power at all, but they can arouse God's jealousy. 1 corinthians 8:4 "We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is not God but one." "they aroused His jealousy with their idols" Psalm 78:58

but if they are things that provoke God to curse them, I would definitely not want to have things like that in my possession. I don't have fear of demons or evil thanks to God, but God is one to fear, as Jesus says. We surely don't want to provoke Him to anger.

2 Cor. 6:17
The Lord also says,
"Leave them and stay away!
Don't touch anything

that isn't clean.
Then I will welcome you." (CEV)
if you look in the Old Testament, anytime God restored the people, the kings who followed Him would tear down the idols (astoreth) and high places (altars) where other dieties were worshipped. if those things are used to worship other Gods, then there is spiritual power attached to them because those spirits recognize what is dedicated to them. we live in the earth, but there is an unseen realm that is even more real than what is seen. i was taught from the Bible that the God we worship is a jealous God and in Exodus 20 He commands us not to have other gods, or anything pertaining to them.
we either worship God, or some other diety, even if it is ourselves. so although i cannot think of a specific chapter and verse in the Bible (although in the book of acts it does talk about the curious arts and things that people were doing that they burned when they repented), there is enough information to support not having these things around us if we say that we worship God and only God.

Absolutely I believe that! They call them "familiar objects".
Alot of the information Christians have attained on how the demonic spirit world works is from former occultists who have converted to Christianity and "spilled the beans"...

There is information of occultists/satanists who have placed/attached demons onto objects... many claim a demonic item is Satan's territory & demons just 'come with them' naturally - having right to the territory & a 'doorway' to accessing anyone in posession of the item wherever it is.

But I agree with the post a few before mine where God tells His people not to TOUCH what is unclean. God also didn't allow them to keep any idols from the spoils after wars.

Hosea 4:6 is also key, lack of knowledge can destroy us. I hear ignorant Christians too often saying things like "if you're a believer, NOTHING can harm you", that's completely FALSE.
Ignorance doesn't keep us from all harm - common sense tells us that a child touching a hot stove in ignorance doesn't keep them from being burned.

Here's 2 more:
Deut. 7:25-26
25" The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
26 "You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the curse; you shall utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something cursed

1 Cor 10:19-20
19 What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20 No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons.

So these items represent demons. You can also include stuff like Satanic/occult books, pentagrams, etc. It's al material of Satan & used FOR Satan's service.
Why would we even have such things? They have no place in our lives or homes as believers.

I am surpirsed there are some who don't realize this. I've found it out firsthand.
Partly why people are rejecting this info is they reject the OT as teaching us anything today; as if the NT usurps & removes the entire OT & makes it inoperative.

That's done a huge disservice to God's people. Our churches (if people would bother GOING to church lol) should be teaching from both testaments, not only the New.

I found out firsthand myself, that's why I believe it. Prior to getting into trouble in this area myself, I wouldn't of believed it AND NEITHER WOULD MY BAPTIST FAMILY who now believe these principles are factual. They lived thru my saga & saw me.
Seeing is often believing.

That's why I'm on the rampage about these demonic computer/Xbox games too. Playing with witchcraft & demons & spells in them.
People slam me all the time on that, but I learned firsthand what they bring... so I won't own those anymore (& that's a real sacrifice, cuz I LOVED THEM).

If they don't want to believe it, fine, let them struggle in their spiritual walks- wondering why they never get victory, or why 'things' keep happening... one day they may listen.

All the verses that have been listed were the ones I was thinking of....but I do also know that some animals like frogs and owls can have occultic symbolism as well..

One thing I learned from one of my warfare books was about some mexican pottery image of a beggar.
They have some beggar statues that people used to get (I don't know if they're even around anymore) - but it was actually a cursed item of poverty & brought poverty to people who would have one.

Another one most people have no clue about is the Hawaiian Lei... does anyone know the background of it?
Here's an excerpt from a page linked from Wikipedia about it's history:
http://www.coffeetimes.com/leis.htm
In old Hawaii, all those activities overlapped. The farmer blessing the new crop, the fisherman praying for safety, and the chief chanting in the heiau, all belonged to a people united by a deep-rooted belief in their gods. Each Hawaiian flower and leaf has a specific symbolic meaning, with its own legends and oral history....

Another lei, frequently used, is the maile leaf lei. The lei maile was the lei of all people, all classes, and all occasions, but most especially, it was associated with the worship of the gods of hula

I will never accept a Hawaiian Lei around my neck. Ignorance doesn't automatically cancel out harm from things we do.
Hosea 4:6 My people are DESTROYED for their lack of knowledge.
