Perhaps most troubling for the administration was that one of the few measures to succeed Thursday was an amendment by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) that would subject the Federal Reserve to unprecedented scrutiny. The amendment, which won bipartisan support in the House Financial Services Committee despite the reservations of administration officials, would allow the Government Accountability Office to audit all of the Fed's operations, including its decisions on interest rates and its transactions with foreign central banks.

Paul and allies in both parties -- more than 300 members of Congress have endorsed the measure -- are looking to increase oversight of an institution they consider partly to blame for the financial crisis. Federal officials and many private economists worry that the amendment could make future central bank policymakers reluctant to take unpopular steps to prevent inflation or support the economy for fear of second-guessing by Congress and government auditors.

It depends upon what the son said to the father and what the term 'sexual contact' meant for that family in my own view. If by sexual contact, that mean something like, kissing, which is horrible enough to get a restraining warrant, but not enough to kill over, then I couldn't justify the fathers over reaction. If the son meant he raped the child, then his reaction is understandable (that is not to say the father got off the hook).

This pushes the bounds, of my own understanding, of the difference between a first and second degree murder. The father clearly planned it out (and thus first degree), yet it appears that the plan was constituted by a single burst of emotions, in that the initial rage he felt over hearing it directly led to him committing the murder (and thus second degree).

I don't know what to think about this as long as 'sexual contact' is left undefined. While the teenager may have been 15, he may have meant something that was relatively harmless or, while it would constitute sexual abuse, was not something to be killed over.. But then, we may never know what actually happened.
