Federal Reserve under scrutiny (this is the part that I love,go Ron Paul!):clap::clap::prayer:

Perhaps most troubling for the administration was that one of the few measures to succeed Thursday was an amendment by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) that would subject the Federal Reserve to unprecedented scrutiny. The amendment, which won bipartisan support in the House Financial Services Committee despite the reservations of administration officials, would allow the Government Accountability Office to audit all of the Fed's operations, including its decisions on interest rates and its transactions with foreign central banks.

Paul and allies in both parties -- more than 300 members of Congress have endorsed the measure -- are looking to increase oversight of an institution they consider partly to blame for the financial crisis. Federal officials and many private economists worry that the amendment could make future central bank policymakers reluctant to take unpopular steps to prevent inflation or support the economy for fear of second-guessing by Congress and government auditors.
Other threads like the one about Lou Dobbs seemed to follow a similar track and people still talk about Rev. Wright as being racist.

So, how do you define racism? What does it take in your mind for a sign, comment, image or action to rise to the level of racism? Does the race of the targeted group or individual matter? Does the history of the country make a difference?

A 37-year-old father irate over hearing his 15-year-old son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl made the teen strip at gunpoint, marched him to a vacant lot and shot him to death despite pleas from the boy and his mother, a relative said.

It depends upon what the son said to the father and what the term 'sexual contact' meant for that family in my own view. If by sexual contact, that mean something like, kissing, which is horrible enough to get a restraining warrant, but not enough to kill over, then I couldn't justify the fathers over reaction. If the son meant he raped the child, then his reaction is understandable (that is not to say the father got off the hook).

This pushes the bounds, of my own understanding, of the difference between a first and second degree murder. The father clearly planned it out (and thus first degree), yet it appears that the plan was constituted by a single burst of emotions, in that the initial rage he felt over hearing it directly led to him committing the murder (and thus second degree).

I don't know what to think about this as long as 'sexual contact' is left undefined. While the teenager may have been 15, he may have meant something that was relatively harmless or, while it would constitute sexual abuse, was not something to be killed over.. But then, we may never know what actually happened.

*in case you are wondering why a professor would send such a story, the class is on child abuse and therapy.

While all eyes were on the celebrations surrounding the 20th anniversary of the bringing down of the Berlin Wall, another 20th anniversary was almost completely eclipsed in the news.

In Africa's last colony, Namibia, the first free and fair elections, as certified by the UN's Special Representative to the region, were held on November 7th, 1989, two days before the Wall dividing East and West Berlin came down.

Namibia was the last colony on the African continent to achieve independence.

 Dear Ian,

Gap has responded to AFA's call for a Christmas boycott of their Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic stores with a commercial that takes a cavalier approach towards Christmas.
The video entitled Ready for Holiday Cheer features a group of people dancing and chanting:
Two, Four, Six, Eight, now's the time to liberate
Go Christmas, Go Hanukkah, Go Kwanza, Go Solstice.
Go classic tree, go plastic tree, go plant a tree, go add a tree,
You 86 the rules, you do what feels just right.
Happy do whatever you wanukkah, and to all a cheery night.
Go Christmas, Go Hanukkah, go whatever holiday you wanukkah.
Did you notice it? Gap compares Christmas to the pagan holiday called "Solstice." Solstice is celebrated by Wiccans who practice witchcraft!
Gap also encourages you to "86" or "dismiss" traditions and "do what feels just right."
Take our Poll! Since Gap has now included the word "Christmas" in a television ad, should AFA call for an end to the boycott of their stores?

I looked at the poll, it was about 800 people said to end the boycott, 30,000 said to continue it. Really, AFA, really?

Because they put Christmas on equal footing with other winter holidays, and give equal respect to all winter holidays, they need to be boycotted? I mean, they have the right to of course, but it makes them look vindictive and silly. Granted, that's never stopped them before.
