knife in the Heart

Certain things hit me like a knife in the heart. That may sound overly dramatized, but that is how certain political news hits me.
We don't want other people who have different political beliefs to know this. We don't want them to know how much a political disappointment really hurts.
I read equivocation, denial, huffing and puffing, joking, research, talking points, points of view put forward by the political writers on my favorite blogs (I'm ignoring these temporarily). But no one wants the other side to know how much it hurts.
I wonder if the other side hurts too, sometimes. They also do equivocation, denial, huffing and puffing, joking, research, talking points, and points of view too.
Will we ever truly communicate and not just talk at each other? Has this country ever been so divided?
