Living Sacrifice

Living Sacrifice

Roman 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Here we are being called to be a living sacrifice.

Sacrifice -surrendered or lost in order to gain an objective

Like Christ did he presented his body as a sacrifice, and the objective was to take on our sin debt and give us eternal life with Him and his Father. He was beaten beyond human recognition, and crucified for all men.

You might think, man that is a lot to be a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. To some it might be easier to die for God then to live for him. Living for God is not easy. You may loose friends, family members, be persecuted, and even suffer death.

So why should we? Well itís our reasonable service. Remember Jesus died on the cross for us. Therefore, we can have our life changed forever on earth and eternally. We get the Holly Spirit to abide in us, and have eternal life.

And we are called unto good works.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Why shouldnít we? Out of fear. We should serve God because we love him.

And I ll get to some more reasons in a second.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Transform - change or alter in form, appearance, or nature

Conformed. To correspond in form or character; be similar. To act or be in accord or agreement;

Renew
To make new again; to restore to freshness, perfection, or vigor.

See when you are lost this will happen once you are saved your mind will be renewed. You will be a new man.

Eph 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

See you cannot be saved and not change your mind about things, and change the way you live. You cannot be filled with the Holy Spirit and not change I am sorry but that is what Gods word says. And do you really believe you can have the spirit of God and be the same man? I think not.

But once you are saved, we need a daily renewing of our mind. Meaning constant reading of the word and praying. If not we get closer to being more like the world. That makes us farther away from God, and less like Christ.

This should be an everyday process. I donít think we can live a day, going to work and being around all the ungodliness, and not need to read our Bible, and pray to cleanse and renew our mind.

James 4:4 states whoever is a friend of the world is an enemy of God.

If our mind is constantly focused on the things of this world, ask yourself does that make you more worried about being a friend of the world then a child of God. Are you drawing nigh to the world or you drawing nigh to God?

I know it can be hard, we have a lot of stuff going on in our lives. A lot of decisions, but we have a God we can hand all that over to. Remember to put him first and he will take care of everything else.

Do you go to pray and have your whole day and tomorrow running through your mind? I would think we all do at times. Have you ever cleared your mind, then go to God in prayer? I am telling you the conversation is so much better with God in prayer when you clear out everything that is running through your mind. Just get all the daily distractions out of your mind and just focus on you and Gods relationship. I mean the creator of the universe you can call father through what your big bother Jesus done on the cross Amen. Why talk to God and have distraction causing you to miss what he wants to tell you? I am not saying to forget about the burdens and prayer request you want to share with him. Just get the daily nonsense out of your mind.

Another reason we should be a living sacrifice, is so God draws nigh to us.
And to be closer to GOD. When you realize how much God loves you, you will want to be close to him and serve him.

Look at the first part of
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

Can you actually comprehend what that is saying? Itís saying the God of the universe Creator of all things. The almighty, all powerful, all knowing God will draw close to you. I mean just stop and think about that, let it sink in. If you donít want to be close to the creator of the universe I am going out on the limb and saying you probably have a spiritual problem. The maker and creator of everything in the universe will get close to you, and all you need to do is draw near to him. By doing what we just talked about. Presenting yourself as a living sacrifice and renewing your mind to the things of God. And also

Look at the second part
Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

You canít be close to God when your life is filled of sin. You canít be close to God when youíre doing what is right in your own eyes. Look at what happened to Israel when they did what was right in their own eyes.

They were captured by other nations and stuck in bondage. Well when we are doing what is right in our eyes the sin will over takes us.

How can we be close to God when we have our hands in sin, our heart fixed on sin, and our mind wrapped up in sin? Notice the double minded. We need to renew our mind purify our hearts and cleanse our hands of sin to draw nigh to God.

Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Why let sin keep you away from God.
Guess what Israel was in bondage from other nations more then once and they cried out to God and he freed them. He led them to victory over the nations.
Well cry out to God he can purify your heart and give you the power to overcome the sin. You sure cannot do it by yourself. Submit yourself to God ask him to purify your heart, for his heart to be your heart. Do this daily. We still have to live with our sinful nature. We have a spiritual battle going on and we need to fight it daily.

Look at
James 4:6-7 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Says God resist the proud and giveth grace to the humble. Says to submit to God. As James also says, we need to be doers of the word not hearers only deceiving ourselves.

What stops up from renewing our mind and being a living sacrifice?

Well speaking just a second ago about spiritual battles we have. The Bible gives you all the instructions you need to win. There is no doubt about that. But what does the devil use. It helps if you know your enemy in battle does it not. Know his tactics and battle plans. The devil has many different tactics to pull our eyes shut and to keep us from drawing nigh to God. However, I think now a days we all have a pretty common yet simple attack being used on us.
In battle when your enemy was distracted, you could attack in many different ways. Now a days we have many distractions in our battle field.

Ask yourself what distractions are we more focused on then focusing on what God has for us to do. You need to get them out the way ASAP.

How many times do we come to church and so distracted we do not even hear the message? I ll be honest I know I have. There are many things that go on in our lives, we can get extremely busy and it is easy to get distracted.

How many times have you read the Bible and was so distracted you do not even remember what you just read? I have.

To name a few distractions, money, work, TV, sports, video games, music, Facebook. For an example my wife calls me CDC or something like that on about anything I start doing. Like working out for example. I just call it dedicated. But seriously, I noticed I was spending too much time researching stuff. For instance, when I started working out I set goals and then I spent all this time on the internet researching how to hit my goals. Kept looking up the same thing I already knew. It hit me all of sudden I was spending to much unnecessary time for things like this. In addition, it was not a lot of time because I do not have a lot of time. However, any time used unwisely is time you could be spending with God.

I mean if you do something, there is nothing wrong with setting goals and trying to be good at it. Learning how to be good at it. However, just ask yourself are you spending too much time with it. Do not get me wrong I still workout and have hobbies, but I do not let them distract me and take up more time then they should. And I take God with me. You would be surprised at the chances you get to witness to people at the rifle range. People start talking about guns and the country and chances open up easy there. There is nothing wrong with hobbies, I mean you could find someone that shares the same hobby and lead them to Christ. God can use whatever you are into. However, we should not cleave to these things. Only things we should cleave to is God, or wife, or husband, and good.

We all need money that is why we work. We all have to work to support our family and just to eat. And we need to focus on our jobs. Many of our jobs are involved in safety. I know if I am not focused, you can really put someoneís life in danger working on cars. I know sometimes I put my life in danger at home by thoughts for this message running through my mind. I was doing laundry and putting clothes in the dryer. I caught myself not checking the clothes. I went back through them and found some of my wives shirts in the dryer. And she shows no mercy for shrinking a shirt. Seriously though there are times when we need to be focused on whatís going on.

We all need Facebook right. I mean where we would be if it were not for Facebook. No but serious you could use Facebook for Gods glory (family different states or people you donít know you could lead to Christ). But we should make sure we spend more time with God then these things. Also, make sure you spend more time with your family then these things. Do not sacrifice your family, do not do it. So there are things we do not need that can distract us from God, and things we do need like a job so we can have money for food housing and all the other necessary things in life.

However, you know what we need more is to draw nigh to God. God will take care of all our needs anyway. So why be distracted and worry about them, hand them over to God.

We need to renew our minds daily in the things of God.

If you need motivation, just remember the creator of the universe will draw close to you if you draw close to him. Just let that sink in again.

Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

If serving God does not get your blood pumping, then maybe you are too conformed to this world. Maybe you need to renew your mind with the things of God. Donít quench your spirit. I know we have a lot going on in our lives, and many things that can easily distract us. Let us mediate all day and night.

If your lost today and God is dealing with your heart donít wait another day without dealing with it. The same if youíre a Christian and God is dealing with your heart, cause if you wait to deal with it you will just be distracted. You never know if youíll have another opportunity to deal with whatever it is, salvation or something else. We are not to boast about tomorrow because we do not know if we will live to see tomorrow. If you are lost or saved what is distracting you from drawing nigh to God and being a living sacrifice unto God.
