C.H.R.I.S.T. is the name of the House Church I lead: Church-House of the Revered, Immortal, Sacred Trinity. We hold two meetings each week. I will be using this space to share my sermons and anything else that may be of interest, or that I may need to remember: I have been blessed by the Lord in a great many ways, but sadly have not been blessed with a good long-term memory!

General prayer meeting.
Reading: Matthew 27:1-7
Sermon: Charity
You may be wondering why I chose the death of Judas as a centrepiece to this meeting, and that is of course a valid question. I want to talk today not about the death of our Lord, but about charity.
We here are fortunate to have such a tithing system, where we see the fruits of our charity first-hand. However, this can in turn lead to a very dangerous feeling - a feeling of pride.
Matthew the Evangelist tells us, in the same breath as telling us of Judas' remorse and giving of his blood money to the temple, that the chiefs of the temple refused to accept the money into the pot. We should learn from them. Money given in pride is no better than money given in blood.
Shortly I will ask all of us to put our hands into our pockets. Do not think about the number of pounds you are giving to the pot. Think about why, precisely, your charity is so important. Think about why you feel foolish pride. And when you look around you, you may see others giving less money, but that may be all they can afford.
Though you are proud, you may simply be making a show of your tithe, and not giving from the heart. It is not about what you give. It is about why.
Let us pray.
