Money and the Bible
Posted 25th March 2010 at 02:14 AM by AMR
What exactly does the Bible teach about money?
1. Our first priority is Christ and His Kingdom. Matt 6:33
2. What we have has been given to us by Christ, and should be used wisely. Deut 8:18; 1 Chronicles 29:11-12; James 1:17
3. God provides wealth. James 4:13-16
4. Money is to be gained through honest labor. Prov 6:6-11; 21:5; 28:19
5. Those who are not willing to work should not be given money, because doing so is only enabling their idleness. 2 Thess 3:10
6. One should plan their finances. Prov 24:3-4; 27:23-27; Luke 14:28-30;
7. One should not be overly preoccupied with their money. Matt 6:31-33; Php 4:6
8. One should put money aside for the future. Prov 21:20
9. One should not hoard their wealth solely for themselves. When one has an excess of wealth, they should share their wealth. Luke 12:15-21
10. One should not love money more than they love God. Matt 6:24; Luke 6:13; 1 Tim 6:6
11. One should give to God, the Church, and the poor. Prov 3:9-10; Luke 14:12-14; 1 Cor 16:1-2; 2 Cor 9:7; 1 Tim 6:18-19; 1 John 3:17
12. One should prepare financially so they can leave an inheritance to their descendants. Prov 13:22; 2 Cor 12:14; 1 Tim 5:8.

| | How do you go about giving to God, the Church and the poor? What is "giving to God"? What if you know that your Church gives nothing to the poor but keeps all money for itself? Which "poor" are we supposed to give to? Sponsoring a child in some poor country? to the bum across the street? To a local charity? I've been troubled about this for some time. How to distribute my money. I don't know if I believe in tithing, in Acts it said the first believers put all their money together, so how do we know if we're giving too much or not enough? |

| | You can give to your church and let it be the steward of the abundance of God shared with it by its members. You can also give independently to other worthy organizations. Let your conscience be your guide. AMR |
