Stop praying already!! It aint' helping!

Went on a trip with my mom and sister (very religious Christians), and we got in some trouble.
My mom insisted that God would help us, and protect us, and wanted all of us to keep praying. And she wanted me to pray too. Aye Carumba! I didn't, but it drove me nuts. We worked our butts off to get out of trouble, WHICH we did, with NO help by the way.
Sigh... just bugs me that she thinks she can't do anything without God's help. I used to think that way and it totally messed me up.
She wants me to just assume we will be fine because we said a prayer?! Seriously?!!
First off, whose to say there is a God listening to us. And second off, I know there have been thousands if not millions of people who have said prayers, and they were NOT helped.
Good lord. Not for me. none thanks.
Hope is one thing. Blind faith is another. I hope all the time sure... but I don't need to pretend there some guy in the sky in order to have hope. And I sure don't just rely on hope to get me out of jams.

| | Well, I just had something happen to me thanks to a prayer today, but your right usually, praying doesn't really help sometimes, but don't expect to have Jesus give you $1,000,000 because you prayed for it, but he has helped me in dire situations, but you can't just expect him to do it himself you have to help. | | I'm not a fan of prayer. And praying for money is just silly. If there is ONE thing the God of bible is ALWAYS going on about is about how he will provide for everything. It's like "Dear God, I know you said you will always provide. But maybe you forgot to give me something this week? Could you double check your books because I could really use some more $$ for my mortgage, or maybe get my car to work again? Thanks, Amen." |

| | I'm not making fun of God. I'm pointing out the oddities and what I see as irrational behavior, in Christianity. Because it frustrates me to no end and sometimes "preaching to the choir" isn't as interesting. I wonder what responses I'll get to my frustrations. Not everything I post makes fun... just sometimes it gets to be too much and it comes out. |

| |  God is big enough to stick up for Himself and will reveal Himself to you if that is what you truly desire. However, I do agree with you on some points. God is not a genie that we can call upon to grant our wishes (especially financial ones) whenever we feel like it. Prayer is not the rubbing of the lamp in which He lives (or doesn't for that matter) if you see what I mean. God gave us intellect and choices and we have a responsibility to use them wisely and not deliberately put ourselves in harms way and then expect Him to rescue us. Besides which, He sent His only Son Jesus to 'rescue us' on the cross. Pretty much everything else in life is inconsequential anyway. C8-@ |
