Horespower, Tractive Effort And Factor Of Adhesion

Horsepower absolutely does factor in a locomotives pulling power. It's not just tractive effort! A 5,000 horsepower locomotive will pull more than a 4,000 horsepower locomotive.

A locomotives most important number is neither tractive effort or horsepower. The most important number to a locomotive is factor of adhesion. Factor of adhesion is a locomotives ability to adhere to the rails.

An optimal factor of adhesion is 4.5. Much higher and the locomotive will be too slow...

Oh no!

When I found out they were re-releasing Titanic in 3D, I was livid!

This movie is a historically inaccurate piece of rubbish. Essentially the people who made this movie took an awesome tragedy in human history and added a whole bunch of fake characters and focused almost entirely on the budding romance of two of them.

As a history nerd, I can not begin to describe how much I hate this movie!

Seriously, Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater did not exist!

Updated 30th March 2012 at 08:59 PM by AdamKane
Tampering with natural fire regimes in any wild land is harmful. It is especially detrimental to the hardwood forest. Humans tamper with fire regimes in 4 ways: accident, arson, 'prescribed' fire and fire suppression.

Hardwood forests are not fire adapted or fire dependent ecosystems. At most, natural forest fires occur in hardwood forests every 10-15 years. These fires are caused by lightning.

Hardwood forests have many characteristics that make them relatively impervious...
