The Shape of Sola Scriptura - Forward

Posted 9th May 2009 at 06:44 PM by packermann
I thought that a good project is to read what is considered possibly the best modern defense of sola scriptura. It is called The Shape of Sola Scriptura by Keith Mathison. You can probably get a copy from the nearest library. They can always get it through inter-library loan. Or you can all so get at most of the book at The Shape of Sola Scriptura - Google Book Search.

The Bible is the most dangerous book in the world

Posted 7th May 2009 at 03:47 PM by packermann
The Bible is the most wonderful book in the world. No other book in the world has been used as much to save souls and to better society, to heal families and save lives.

The Bible is the most dangerous book in the world. No other book in the world has been used as much to ruin and society, to break up families and to destroy lives.

Both of these are true! The Bible is wonderful book! The Bible is a dangerous book! The Bible is a dangerous book if used in the wrong hands....

Posted 4th May 2009 at 06:35 PM by packermann
I could not believe the call I received from the placement director at my seminary. A small Free-Will Baptist Church needed a pastor – not a youth pastor or an assistant pastor, but the only pastor. I was excited about the opportunities to preach the gospel there. Also it seemed that this church fit with my theology. I was an Arminian. I believed that a person freely chooses to follow Christ, and he can freely choose not to believe in Christ. Also, the members seemed to favor the charismatic movement....

Why I have more assurance of my salvation as a Catholic than a Protestant

Posted 3rd May 2009 at 12:27 PM by packermann
This may surprise some of you. After all, one of the hallmarks of Protestantism is that one can be absolutely sure of one’s salvation. But the Catholic Church teaches that one cannot be absolutely assured of one’s salvation. So how can I be more assured of my salvation now as a Catholic then when a Protestant? Let me explain.

There are two kinds of truth – objective truth and subjective truth. Objective truth is true for all. Subjective truth is true for me. Objective truth is that...
