A prayer ...

Posted 24th September 2009 at 01:35 PM by Bridgit
Jesus, ruler over the kings of the earth, we trust in your perfect leadership. We believe your Kingdom is coming and is already at hand. We believe in the way you choose to lead, and trust that the kings around us are there because of your hand. We declare that we desire to be faithful to You, Your word, and to Your command. As we read the news today, and examine the world around us, cause us to not be ignorant of the systems in which we live. Give us eyes to see the ways we can be faithful to see...

Can God use me?

Posted 21st October 2008 at 07:52 AM by Bridgit
If you ever wonder how in the world God could use you to change the world, look at the people God used to change history. A ragbag of ne’er-do-wells and has-beens who found hope, not in their performance, but in God’s proverbially open arms.

Abraham- God took what was good and forgave what was bad and used “old forked tongue” to start a nation. Moses- would you call upon a fugitive to carry the Ten Commandments? God did. David- his track record left little to be desired, but his repentant...

Grace

Job 17:1-16

You know why I love the Bible? Because it's so real. There's a lot of fog rolling into Job's life, just as in our lives. On this earth nobody "lives happily ever after." That line is a huge fairy tale. You're living in a dream world if you're waiting for things to be "happy ever after." That's why we need grace. Marriage doesn't get easier, it gets harder. So we need grace to keep it together. Work doesn't get easier, it gets more complicated, so we...

Reality

Posted 19th August 2008 at 12:29 PM by Bridgit

It's not only unedited, it's raw and borderline heretical! Some of it is downright offensive. We don't want to think a man as great as Job in chapters 1 and 2 is the same man you meet in chapter 3. We just don't want to believe it. Why? Partly because we have this skewed idea that anybody who walks this...

Unexpected witnesses

Posted 4th August 2008 at 11:21 AM by Bridgit
At the end of Esther's story, we have the same king as at the beginning, King Ahasuerus. We have the same kingdom, where he reigns from India to Ethiopia, more than 127 provinces. We have the same country, Persia, and the same capital city, Susa. But some things have changed. Vashti is no longer queen; Esther is queen. And she is a queen who has won her husband's overwhelming respect and loyalty. Haman was once second in command, but he is gone forever. Mordecai is alive and well. Wicked plans have...
