The Third Day (orginally posted on 1st October 2007)

Thoughts about the third day -

1) Life was given to the world on the Third day.

Genesis 1:9. And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11. And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit-trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so.
12. And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after their kind: and God saw that it was good.
13. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.

2) On the Third day God provided a sacrifice for abraham saving his son - a picture that God would give the sacrifice saving us and instead of asking for our sons He gave His own.

Genesis 22: 4. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
5. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder; and we will worship, and come again to you.
6. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. And they went both of them together.
7. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father. And he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold, the fire and the wood. But where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?
8. And Abraham said, God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son. So they went both of them together.
9. And they came to the place which God had told him of. And Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
10. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11. And the angel of Jehovah called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham. And he said, Here I am.
12. And he said, Lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him. For now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from me.
13. And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt-offering in the stead of his son.
14. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. As it is said to this day, In the mount of Jehovah it shall be provided.

3) On the third day God appeared to the people on mt sinai
Exodus 19: 9. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Jehovah.
10. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments,
11. and be ready against the third day; for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

4) Cleansing occured on the third day -

Numbers 19:12. the same shall purify himself therewith on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.

5) Some believe this verse in Isaiah prophecies Israels rebirth after 2000 years as well as forshadows Christs being risen on the third day(many also believe this refers to the church being risen up in the rapture at the end of the church age when israel is brought back to God)

Hosea 6
1. Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2. After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.

6) Jesus says He will be raised on the third day

Matthew: 21. From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

7) Jesus rose again on the third day. Giving life back to the earth by having removed sin.

1 Corinthians 15: 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4. and that he was buried; and that he hath been raised on the third day according to the scriptures

We are at the door of the third day - are you ready?
