The February 13, 1987, issue of The Missileer, a newspaper of the 45th Space Wing, U.S. Air Force, ran this brief and apparently true story by Colonel John W. Mansur:

The mortar rounds landed in an orphanage run by a missionary group in the small Vietnamese village. The missionaries and one or two children were killed outright and several more children were wounded, including one girl about eight years old.

Spirit can be used to mean the spirit given us by God that animates us, houses our inner-motives and emotional expression.

In the New Testament, the spirit "is the realm where relations between God and a human being can take place (Philippians 3:3)." It is "that aspect of human personality or self through which these relations are possible (http://www.gci.org/spiritual/soulspirit)."

Lately I have noticed a change in my relationship with God. I think that the Holy Spirit has revealed to me what might be the problem. Starting today, I am going to repent of this problem and act like a true disciple of Christ. I want to be one of his faithful followers that follows Him everywhere and becomes more like Him.

First major test. First major failure. The spirit is willing but not willing enough it would seem. I knew I would fail there. I should have avoided the situation better.
